Alex took Juliet's hand in his when they arrived at her house... and he squeezed it a little in support as they walked to her front door... "We could come back another time if you want," Alex suggested, but she shook her head... she needed to take a few things from her house also and didn't want to keep procrastinating... she also wanted to see the state of her house was left in... "No, I need to take a few things too," She answered, and Alex nodded...
Juliet saw that her front door lock at being changed to a smart lock, and her windows were in the process of being replaced... Alex opened the door for the both of them, and Juliet was expecting to see a scattered house like she had seen in the pictures Alex had showed but it was the exact opposite... Her house had been arranged neatly and everything was in order... she turned to look at Alex and smiled at him because she knew it was doing... "I should check the bedroom," She said, and Alex nodded. He let go of her hand and walked away to the living room while Juliet headed to her room... She pushed open the door of her room and turned on the light switch... Her room had been arranged too, but she immediately noticed that her bed had been moved... she didn't think much about it and proceeded to check her wardrobe where she kept her clothes and a few of her documents...
She searched through it and brought out the box that contained documents like her birth certificate and so on... nothing was missing from her documents, thankfully... she picked up the box and carried it to the living room where Alex was waiting for her... he was standing by her window and looking outside when she walked in... "Nothing is missing from my room," She said to him, and he nodded. His eyes travelled to the box in her hand... "Oh, this is where I keep a few of my documents, nothing really important..."
"I think that is all... except." She trailed off and swallowed... Alex immediately said the sad glint that had passed through her eyes... "Juliet." He called her name softly, and she looked at him and smiled slightly... "I haven't checked my mom's room yet... I have to..." She said in a low voice and turned to leave... Alex slowly followed behind her...
Alex walked down the same narrow hall that contained the two rooms in her house... her room and then her mother's room... juliet slowed down as she approached the room, her heart racing in her chest... it had been a while since her mother had passed away but now that she was about to go into the room, she felt her stomach churn a bit as memories of the last few days of her mother's life invaded her mind...
She raised her hand to open the door, but her hand stopped midair... she took a deep breath when she felt her eyes water up... Juliet turned to look at Alex, who was standing behind her for help, and he smiled warmly at her... She moved back and stood behind him so he could open the door for her... the last time she had been in the room, she had been beyond heartbroken...
Alex turned to look at it when he finally opened the door and he took her hand in his and she nodded and walked into the room with him... it was exactly as she remembered... her mother's bed was made and everything was left in its place... she blinked back the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes...
"Are you alright?" Alex asked her, and she nodded and smiled at him to assure him that she was fine even though she wasn't... she knew she had to visit her mother soon... she missed her... she missed all their conversations and her mother's beautiful laughter...
Juliet walked to her mother's dresser and started to trail her hand on the wood... "This belonged to my grandmother, but my mother wanted her to have it... it made my aunt jealous, but my mother didn't care and still took it with us when we moved back here, " Juliet said to Alex, a sad smile on her face...
"I used to sit here, and she would brush my hair, and we would talk about random things... it was just the two of us, but... we were happy...just for a short time though," Juliet said in a low voice and gave her head a little shake when she realised how sad she was making everything become because she kept reminiscing...
"I should check if anything is missing here," She said to Alex and started to open the drawer of the dresser to check what was inside... Alex stood there watching her...he wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her everything would be fine.... he still remembered the night there had met and how Distraught she was... She didn't speak about that night anymore... She was keeping it deep inside of her heart...
Juliet stopped when she opened the last drawer and her eyes caught a white envelope... Alex's eyes travelled to it too, and they exchanged looks... Juliet took out the envelope and opened it slowly, and her eyes immediately watered up when she brought out a letter and read through the first line... it was a letter addressed to her from her mother...
"I think my mother left this...for me to find..."She said to Alex in a low voice and covered her eyes when she could no longer hold back her tears... Alex immediately held her in his arms, and Juliet finally let out her tears... she let her tears fall, and she cried in his arms...
Alex soothingly patted her back, feeling his heartbreak for her... he hated to hear or see her cry... it broke something in him every single time...
