Chapter 122: They Can Run But Can't Hide
It was a Monday morning, the following day after the wedding day, in which Sarah was abandoned by her groom, Charles. The news was still circulating throughout the whole city, but Sarah wasn't affected by that, and that all thanks to the audio recording released by Xavier. If he hadn't released that audio recording, first she wouldn't have known Charles real motives for dating her and wanting to marry her, and she wouldn't have also known that she has an unknown enemy called Old Man. In addition to that, everyone would have seen her as a bad person since she was the one who was abandoned. Being abandoned on one's wedding day for no reason is something that rarely happens, and whenever it happens, people are always quick to conclude that the reason why the person got abandoned on the wedding day is because he or she has a bad character, and the reason why the partner didn't reveal the reason is maybe he or she doesn't want to ruin the other person's reputation, or maybe he or she wanted to teach the other partner a big lesson he or she would never forget. In her own case, everyone would have easily concluded that she was a terrible person; first she was divorced by Xavier and afterwards abandoned by Charles on her wedding day. Happily, Xavier has spared her from all this, and even if she doesn't like Xavier, at least she's grateful to him for that, and she will surely find one way or another to pay him for that, but that doesn't mean she has forgiven him for what he did to her; if he wants her forgiveness, then he would have to do more than that. She knows well that everything he has been doing recently is just to make her accept him back, but that's never going to happen. She might give him a break for a little while by not trying to ruin his life any longer, but she's never going to forgive him, talk less of getting back with him.
Walking out of the bathroom, she checked the time and realized it was already seven AM, and without hesitating, she dried up her body and applied some lotion to her body before putting on the dress. When she was done getting prepared, she looked at herself in the mirror for some minutes before picking up her handbag that was on the bed and walking to the sitting room only to meet Justin and her uncle having breakfast.
"Good morning," Justin greeted her once she came out.
"Yes, good morning, dear. How was your night?" She asked him before walking to him and kissing him on the cheeks.
"It was fine, Mum; what about yours?" Justin asked her.
"Mine too was fine," Sarah said to him in reply.
"Good morning, Dad," Sarah greeted Richard before kissing him on the cheeks also.
"Good morning, my dear, How was your night?" Richard asked her.
"My night was fine, Dad; what about yours?" Sarah asked him before sitting down on the chair opposite him, and with that, one of the maids came and dish out her food for her.
"Mine too was fine; I thought you wouldn't be going to work today after what happened yesterday," Richard said to Sarah, who scoffed before scooping her food into her mouth.
"Well, I wouldn't have gone to work today if I was affected by it, but fortunately for me, I wasn't, so I don't see any reason why not to go to work, and in addition to that, I have many things to take care of today at the company, and I can't leave everything to Xavier, so I have to be present," Sarah said to her uncle, who nodded in reply while eating his food.
"Mummy, since you didn't marry Uncle Charles again, can you now marry Daddy?" Justin asked Sarah, who was taken aback by the question.
"No, of course, I'm not marrying your dad," Sarah said to him before looking at her uncle, who smiled before shaking his head in disbelief.
"But why, Mum?" Justin asked her with a displeased tone.
"Because marriage doesn't work like that, mind you that your dad and I are divorced. And before two people get married, they have to know each other very well, love each other very well, and also agree to get married. Marriage is not a one-person thing, okay?" Sarah asked him with a calm tone.
"But Dad loves you and wants to get married to you," Justin said to Sarah, who looked at her uncle before heaving a sigh.
"Did your dad say that?" Sarah asked him with furrowed brows.
"No but...
"No but Justin, don't say what people didn't say; now hurry up and eat your food so that we will get going; we are already running late," Sarah said to him.
"Yes, Mum," he said to Sarah with a grumpy tone and resumed eating his food, and with that, Richard smiled before patting him on the head. He was still a little kid, but with the way he talks, one would think that he's already a grownup.
"Dad, have you gotten any information about the so-called old man?" Elizabeth asked her uncle.
"Not yet, my dear, but we are still searching; we will make sure to find him as soon as possible and also know what he wants from you," Richard said to her. "If Charles was still around, we would have gotten him arrested and pulled the truth out of him if required," Richard said to her.
"What about Adrian? I heard Charles discussing almost all his plans with him. It's obvious that he's not only Charles's accomplice but also knows who the old man is," Sarah said to him.
"Well, you are right, but unfortunately he's nowhere to be found; it's obvious that he has left the country in order to avoid being caught and questioned," Richard said to Sarah, who heaved a sigh of disappointment.
"But you don't have to worry; they can run, but they can't hide; we will surely find them very soon," Richard said to her with a reassuring tone, and she nodded in reply.
