Chapter 99: Strengthen Our Security
"Good evening, sir; you are late," Ben said to Xavier without even turning to look at him, but Xavier remained silent while glaring at him from where he was standing, and with that, Ben turned only to face Xavier's burning eyes.
"So you are finally awake?" Xavier asked him with a cold tone while pretending not to be happy by the fact that he had already woken up.
"Yes, sir, but please, why are you glaring at me like that? It's as if you aren't happy that I'm alive," Ben said to Xavier.
"Of course I'm not happy; I was wishing for you to die; by so doing, you won't have to take a bullet for me again," Xavier said to him while feigning to be angry.
"Ungrateful as usual," Ben muttered in a low tone.
"What?" Xavier asked him with furrowed brows.
"Nothing," Ben said to him with a deep frown.
Whatever," Xavier said to him, and with that, he closed the door of the room, walked to the chair that was in a corner, and sat down.
"I'm glad that you have woken up, and thank you for taking a bullet for me once again," Xavier said to him.
"Don't mention it, sir; I was only keeping the promise I made to you," Ben said to him.
"Damn that promise of yours; I have told you countless times to stop taking bullets for me. The next time you take a bullet for me, I won't worry if you are dead or not; even if you enter a coma for ten years, I won't worry myself about you, and I won't also lie to your wife on your behalf," Xavier said to him.
"What a way of thanking someone who saved your life," Ben said to Xavier before rolling his eyes at him.
"By the way, what happened to your face? I haven't even been out for a week, and you have already gotten your butt kicked. Imagine that I'm out for a whole month; you would probably be dead before my return," Ben said to Xavier.
"It seems like you are determined to make me regret rushing you to the hospital when you got shot. Don't worry, I will soon kill you with my bare hands, and for your information, I can take care of myself just as I did this night, so stop talking as if you are too important," Xavier said to Ben.
"Of course I'm too important, and do you mind telling me what happened to you this night?" Ben asked Xavier.
"Some of my enemies managed to kidnap me, but as usual, I got away," Xavier said to him.
"Which of your enemies was it?" Ben asked Xavier
"Anonymous enemy, I didn't get the chance to see his face; he hid it, fearing that I might escape and come after him," Xavier said to Ben.
"What a coward," Ben said to Xavier.
"What about his men? Were you able to get any information from them?" Ben asked Xavier, and he shook his head negatively.
"They didn't even know his name; he was very careful to conceal his identity, and it seems like he has been the one attacking me recently," Xavier said to Ben.
"Well, it seems like Charles isn't the only problem we have here; now we also have some anonymous man to deal with it," Ben said to Xavier.
"Exactly, but I have this feeling that the anonymous man has something to do with Charles," Xavier said to Ben.
"What about if he's Charles?" Ben asked Xavier.
"He's not Charles; even though I couldn't see his face, I'm still very sure that it wasn't Charles because the man is a little bit fat, but Charles is thin, and from the way he was sounding, I can tell that he's probably in his fortieth or fiftieth year," Charles said to Xavier.
"How on earth did you manage to get into trouble with an old man?" Ben asked Xavier.
"I still don't have any idea, but one thing is sure: I will be finding out soon. From now on, we have to strengthen our security. The man might attack anytime soon. Just because he failed the first time doesn't mean he has already given up. Maybe the next time he attacks, it won't be me; it might be Sarah or Justin," Xavier said to Ben.
"Too bad that I won't be completely available to watch over Justin, but I will still try my best," Ben said to Xavier.
"Don't worry about Justin for now; I have assigned someone else to watch over him. Just concentrate on recovering; that's the only thing you need to do in the meantime," Xavier said to Ben, and he nodded in reply.
"By the way, what did you tell my wife? I have to know what I will reply to her when she asks me where I have been," Ben said to Xavier.
"I told her that I sent you on a business trip; as for the wound, you have to come up with something convincing to tell her," Xavier said to Ben.
"Don't worry about that; I will surely come up with something," Ben said to Xavier reassuringly.
"By the way, I hope you and Sarah are getting along." Xavier asked Ben.
"Just a little bit, she's determined to get me out of the company as soon as possible, but I'm not going to give her the satisfaction she wants; as long as I haven't stopped her from getting married to that crook, I'm not living in that company," Xavier said to Ben with a determined tone.
"Well, one thing is sure: we are going to find one way or another to prevent them from getting married; after all, we didn't risk our lives for nothing, and in addition to that, we are also going to find out the main reason why Charles wants to get married to her. If we don't find out all this, that means everything we did was in vain," Ben said to Xavier.
"Well, there's no need to worry; I'm sure that everything is going to go as planned in just a short period of time we are going to have every single piece of information we need," Xavier said to Ben with a determined tone.
