Chapter 67: A Message From Charles
It was a long and hectic day for Xavier, after successfully escaping the paparazzi who were waiting for him in front of his company to know why he sold his company and wanted to become Sarah's personal assistant, he still spent almost two to three hours before his computer following a meeting with his board members through videoconference.
The meeting ended around seven p.m., and before he could finish taking care of other things and heading back home, it was almost eight p.m., and happily, Ben was around to drive, so he didn't have to waste the little energy he had driving the car.
Meanwhile, he was busy in the backseat manipulating his phone when the news of Charles proposing to Sarah suddenly popped into his phone.
"What the hell?" That was the first statement that left Xavier's mouth once he saw the video and the pictures, and with that, Ben, who was driving the car, looked at him through the central mirror.
"Sir, is everything okay?" Ben asked him.
"Yeah, it's just that Charles has taken a step ahead of us," Xavier said to him.
"I don't understand, sir," Ben said to him before looking at him again through the central mirror.
"Charles just proposed to Sarah this evening," Xavier said to him.
"What? And did she accept?" Ben asked him.
"Yeah, she did," Xavier said to Ben before sighing heavily.
"What are you planning to do? Are you going to allow the both of them to get married?" Ben said to Xavier, who immediately scoffed at his question.
"As long as I'm alive, no marriage is taking place; I have to be dead before that happens," Xavier said to Ben, and at the same time, four cars overtook them with speed while honking at them.
"What the hell, where are they rushing to by this time of the night?" Xavier muttered angrily.
"But sir, how are you going to prevent them from getting married?" Ben asked Xavier.
"For now, I don't have any idea, but I'm surely going to come up with one before the wedding day, and as for Charles, no matter how he conceals every piece of information about himself, I'm soon going to find out what he is hiding. I can assure you that," Xavier said to Ben with a determined tone while manipulating his phone.
"As Ben was still driving the car through the lonely road, he sighted four cars blocking the road some meters away.
"Sir, please take a look," Ben said to Xavier, and immediately he raised his head and saw the four cars blocking the road. As they were getting nearer, some armed men started emerging from the dark while holding their weapons firmly.
"Sir, what do you suggest I do? Should I reverse?" Ben asked Xavier.
"No, keep on moving; let's see what's up," Xavier said to Ben with a smirk, and with that, he brought out his gun from the side pocket of his suit to check if it was loaded. When he noticed that it was still loaded, he smiled at himself.
As they were getting nearer, the men hid behind the cars that were blocking the road and started aiming at them with their guns.
"Sir, it seems like they want our heads; should I keep on moving?" Ben asked Xavier.
"Yeah, keep on moving," Xavier said to him, feeling undisturbed. Meanwhile, one of the men was already counting three, two, and immediately he counted one. They started raining bullets on the car, but fortunately the car was bulletproofed, so the bullets weren't having any effects on the car.
When the men saw the speed with which the car was approaching, they quickly jumped off the road. In order not to be hit by the car and taking advantage of the distraction, Xavier whined the glass of the car down, aiming at the men, and without missing a single target, he shot two of the men before whining up the glass. With that, Ben swiftly turned the car, smashing off two of the cars that were blocking the road and going after the three remaining men, not giving them the chance to recharge their guns or shoot at them.
"As Ben was chasing after them with his car, the men kept on running without stopping, knowing that once they stopped, the driver was surely going to run over them.
"Sir, should I end them already?" Ben asked Xavier after a few minutes of driving behind the armed men.
"Yeah, play time over," Xavier said to Ben coldly, and with that, he hit the accelerator pedal of the car, increasing the speed and running over the three men.
"Stop," Xavier said to him after he had run over the three men, and with that, Ben stopped and Xavier crockled his gun before getting down from the car. With that, he walked towards thebodies of the three men and shot each one of them twice, making sure that they were dead.
Sighing heavily, he returned his gun to the side pocket of his suit before walking back to the car. Once he got in, Ben ignited the car and zoomed off.
"Sir, do you have any idea of who sent those men to attack us?" Ben asked Xavier while driving the car.
"I don't have any idea, but something is telling me that it was Charles; probably he was trying to tell me to stay away from his girlfriend," Xavier said to Ben.
"We should have taken one of the men into custody; probably he would have revealed to us who sent them and why," Ben said to Xavier.
"It's of no use; I have many other important things to worry about, like how to stop Sarah and Charles from getting married after taking care of that I can now worry about minor problems like this one," Charles said to Ben, and at the same time, his phone started ringing. Without hesitating, he checked the caller ID, which was Charles, and with that, he smiled at himself before picking up.
"Hi, my dear friend, how are you?" Charles asked him.
"I'm very good, Charles; actually, your message was successfully delivered," Charles said to him with a sarcastic tone.
