Chapter 26: Rescued
Once Sarah saw them, her heart skipped immediately. Without thinking twice, she stepped on the brakes of the car. With her heart pounding heavily, she tried to reverse, but it was already too late; the men were already raining bullets on the car while approaching her.
With the way the four men were shooting at the car and reloading their guns once it ran out of bullets, it was clear that they weren't trying to scare her or something like that; they were determined to kill her.
As the men were still approaching the car and firing at it, Sarah kept on driving backwards with her heart pounding heavily and hot sweats streaming down her body despite the cold weather. Fortunately for her, the car was bulletproofed, and she had already whined up the mirrors of the car when the masked men started shooting at her, so the bullets weren't having much effect on the car as it was reversing.
When they noticed that their bullets weren't having any effects on the car and that the car was also slowly getting away, they immediately changed their targets and started shooting the tires of the cars.
Without adding much effort, the men damaged the two front tires of the car, causing the car to lose balance. As Sarah was still struggling with the steering wheel of the car while trying to stabilize it, the car abruptly switched off. Meanwhile, the men kept on firing while getting nearer, and at the same time, Sarah kept on trying to ignite the car once again, but all her efforts proved abortive.
When Sarah noticed that the men were getting nearer, she immediately checked if the doors were bolted, and once she was sure that they were bolted, she took her phone and bent down, and with a shaky hand, she started searching for her uncle's number. At the same time, the sound of the gunshots kept on getting louder as the men were getting nearer.
As she was still struggling to find her uncle's number with her hands that were trembling in fear, the sound of the gunshot suddenly stopped, but after some minutes, it restarted once again, but it wasn't towards the car anymore. It was as if they were retreating while shooting, and at the same time, Sarah could hear the sound of a car speeding towards her, but due to how frightened she was, she couldn't raise her head up to look at what was happening, and in addition to that, her uncle wasn't picking up his phone.
Suddenly, the sounds of the gunshots stopped again, but this time around, she could clearly hear the voice of someone begging for his life.
Overtaken by curiosity, she slowly raised her head to see what was going on, and that was when she met the shock of her life. Three of the men who had wanted to kill her were lying down on the ground lifelessly, and the fourth was kneeling down before someone who she didn't know, even though the person's suit looked familiar. Since the person was backing her,she couldn't see the person's face.
After some minutes, the person who was standing before the man who was kneeling down pointed his gun at the man's forehead and shot him down, and afterwards he took his phone and placed a call through someone.
When he was done with the call, he returned the phone to his pocket and the gun to his belt holster, and with that, he turned around, and immediately Sarah, who had been staring at him from behind, saw his face.
"Charles," she muttered in disbelief before covering her mouth with her hand. Without hesitating, she started struggling to ignite the car again in order to escape before Charles, who was always approaching the car, would see her.
After some minutes of struggle, she finally gave up, raising her head. She noticed that Charles wasn't in view anymore, but suddenly she heard a knock on the mirror of the car, causing her to fidget in the car.
Turning around, she saw Charles standing in front of the mirror of the car, motioning for her to whine the glass of the window down. With her hands still trembling in fear, she slowly whined the window down.
"Are you okay?" Charles asked her with a worried tone.
"Please don't kill me; I swear through God I saw nothing; I didn't see anything; I have been bending down since all this while." Sarah started pleading with Charles, and immediately he furrowed his brows at her.
"What makes you think that I'm going to kill you?" Charles asked her with furrowed brows.
"I don't know, but please don't kill me; I won't tell anyone what I saw," she continued, begging Charles, who smiled softly.
"I thought you said you didn't see anything?" Charles asked her with furrowed brows.
"Yes, I swear through God; I didn't see anything," she said to Charles once again.
"Well, this wasn't the reaction I was expecting; I just saved your life, but here you are calling me a murderer," Charles said to her.
"No, that wasn't what I meant," Sarah said to him, her voice filled with regret.
"Of course that was what you meant. Why would you ask me not to kill you if you don't think that I'm a murderer? Do I look like someone who kills people for fun?" Charles asked Sarah, but she remained silent while staring at him.
"I don't care about whatever you think about me; I just saved your life. It's up to you to decide if you will be grateful or not, and for your information, I'm not a murderer; I only kill for a just purpose like this one. Goodnight," Charles said to her and started walking away.
"Charles," Sarah called out to him as he was walking away, and immediately he stopped and heaved a sigh.
Do you mind offering me a ride? My car is damaged. Sarah asked Charles, and immediately he smirked at himself before turning around to look at her.
