Chapter 100: Audio Recording Device
It has been over three weeks since Charles and Sarah started organizing their marriage ceremony, which was going to take place soon. Since all this time, Charles has been the one taking care of everything, while Sarah, on the other hand, has been concentrating on her two companies as if there were nothing. For a reason unknown to her, she couldn't explain why she was slowly losing her enthusiasm for the marriage when the marriage was just a few weeks away.
From the way she was reacting, one could hardly believe that she was getting married in some weeks ahead, and even Charles started getting scared thinking that she was planning to call off the marriage, but fortunately for him, she didn't until the last week of the wedding. And even on the last week to the wedding, it took many persuasions from Charles before Sarah finally agreed to spend the last week before their wedding at home, leaving the management of her two companies in the hands of her two personal assistants, which were Xavier and Lucy, and strangely, throughout all this time, Xavier never talked to her again concerning her marriage with Charles.
Even though she never liked it whenever Xavier told her not to get married to Charles, she wasn't happy because he stopped doing it, because according to her, Xavier was trying to prevent her from getting married to Charles because he still loved her and regretted everything he did to her in the past. But she, on the other hand, didn't feel anything towards him; she was only happy knowing that Xavier was going to witness the same lady he had broken some years ago getting married to another man, and despite all his efforts to stop the marriage, he still failed woefully.
Meanwhile, Adrian was inside Charles' office working on some files that Charles was supposed to work on if he was around, but since he wasn't around due to his marriage ceremony, which was in two days, he was the one working on the files. Before heading back home in the evening, he would take them to him at home with other documents for him to sign.
As he was still working on the files, the door burst open, and immediately Charles walked in.
"What the hell, bro, what are you doing here?" Adrian asked him.
"What kind of question is that? This is my company, and I can come whenever I want," Charles said to Ben.
"I thought you said you were taking off the whole week in order to prepare for your marriage, which is in two days?" Adrian asked him.
"Yeah, I said that, but I later changed my mind. I'm feeling bored at home, so I decided to come to the company in order to kill my boredom," Charles said to Adrian, who nodded in reply before standing up so that he could sit down.
"I can't wait to see you in two days putting on your wedding attire and walking up to the altar where you will exchange your vows before God and men," Adrian said to Charles, who scoffed at him.
"Come on, bro, I have told you to erase every stupid imagination you are creating in your head; it's not even as if it's going to be the happiest day of my life; that's how people will see it, but that's not how I will see it," Charles said to Adrian.
"Well, you better start seeing it that way even if it's not true; if not, you might end up ruining everything that day," Adrian said to Xavier.
"Whatever, bro, do I look like a kid? Of course I know how I'm going to act that day, and believe me, the last thing I'm going to do is ruin everything on that day after everything I had gone through to reach this stage. I will be very stupid to do that," Charles said to Ben.
"Well, I'm happy to know that you have all your senses intact. One more thing: make sure you don't fall in love with her; if not, you might end up ruining everything without realizing it," Adrian said to Charles.
"Well, if I didn't fall in love with her since all these while, then it's never going to happen now," Charles said to Adrian.
"Well, since all these while, you haven't been with her in the same house, and you haven't also been sleeping on the same bed with her, so don't compare what has been happening since then with what will happen after you both get married," Adrian said to him.
"Well, you are right about that, but you don't need to worry; I have already made my plans, so there's nothing to be afraid about," Charles said to Xavier.
"Okay, no problem then; I guess you are ready for the task ahead. I will be taking my leave now; since you are already here, you can as well work on the remaining files," Adrian said to Charles before opening the door.
"Hey, I'm not going to work on this; you better come and take them to your office and finish it there," Charles said to Adrian.
"Sorry, bro, but I can't hear you," Adrian said to him before walking out of the office and closing the door.
"Son of a b**tch," Charles cursed inwardly once he left.
"Sighing heavily, he took the files and separated the ones Adrian had worked on from the ones he hadn't worked on; afterwards, he started working on the unworked ones.
As he was still going through the files, he heard a knock on the door, and without asking who it was, he asked the person to come in.
Once the door burst, one of the cleaning agents, who usually comes in the evening to clean the company when everyone had left walked in.
Once Xavier saw him, he furrowed his brows in surprise, wondering why he came to the company while it wasn't yet time for him to clean the company.
"Good evening, sir," the cleaning agent greeted Charles.
"Yes, good evening. How may I help you?" Xavier asked him.
"Actually, two days ago, while cleaning your office, I saw something under your table; it's like an audio recording device. I don't know if you were the one who placed it there or someone else; that's why I decided to show it to you," the cleaning agent said to Charles before handing him the audio recording device.
Once he took it and confirmed that it was an audio recording device, his heart skipped immediately. Looking at the audio recording device, he could feel the bubble of sweat forming on his forehead, and at the same time, his heart started pounding heavily. His only prayer was for the audio recording device not to be from Xavier, because if it's from him, then he's doomed.
