Chapter 28: Unknown Agreement
It was seven a.m., and Sarah had just finished preparing for work. Without hesitating, she took her handbag and started heading downstairs. Once she came down, she saw her uncle sitting before the dining table, manipulating his phone while waiting for her to come and join him so that they would have breakfast together.
That has always been the routine whenever she was around. Richard always made sure that she had breakfast with her before she left for work because if she left without eating, she might probably stay the whole morning without eating anything. It's probably during break that she might find the time to grab something to eat.
"Good morning, dad. How was your night?" Sarah asked him before approaching him and kissing him on his bald head, and immediately Richard glared at her angrily.
"My night's rest was fine; what about yours?" Richard asked her.
"Mine too was fine; you know you don't always have to wait for me before having breakfast; you can have your breakfast, and whenever I'm done preparing for work, I will have mine," Sarah said to him before sitting down on the chair opposite him.
"That's what you say every time, and before one could even know what is going on, you have already run out, leaving the breakfast untouched, so I would rather have it with you; after all, I'm not in a hurry," Richard said to Sarah, who was already dishing out the food.
"No problem with that, but you better get ready to follow me to England because I will be going back soon," Sarah said to him before serving him his own food.
"Whatever," Richard said to her before rolling his eyes at her.
"Let's pray," Richard said to her before offering some words of prayer, and afterwards they started eating their meal.
"I missed your calls last night; I had already slept off when you called," Richard said to her while eating his food.
"It's okay, Dad. I know you will never ignore my calls unless you don't see them," Sarah said to him while eating her food.
"By the way, how was the dinner with Charles?" He asked her.
"It was fine, but at the same time, it was horrible," Sarah said to him.
"Do you mind briefing me about it?" Richard asked her.
"Well, it was fine because Mr. Charles is finally going to become our business partner, and it was horrible because I almost got killed last night," Sarah said to Richard, and immediately he choked on his food. Without hesitating, Sarah took the glass of water and handed it to him before standing up and tapping him on the back in order to calm him down.
"Thank you," Richard said to her after gulping down the water.
"What do you mean by almost getting killed yesterday?" Richard asked her with a surprised tone.
"Some armed men attacked me while I was on my way back home; my car was damaged completely; if not for Mr. Charles, I would have probably been dead," Sarah said to her uncle, who was still staring in shock.
"Come on, Dad, go on and eat your food; I'm fine after all; nothing happened to me," Sarah said to him before scooping her into her mouth.
"Yes, you are fine for now, but for how long are you going to be fine? Do you know what it means for people to be after your life? They can attack you at any time; even when you didn't expect it, I'm getting you a bodyguard," Richard said to her.
"No, Dad, I don't need a bodyguard; I can take care of myself," Sarah said to Richard.
"You can take care of yourself, but you almost got killed yesterday," Richard said to her.
"Well, that's because I stayed out late; if I had come back earlier as usual, nothing would have happened to me," Sarah said to him, and immediately he sighed heavily.
"Just as I used to say, you are already a grownup, and there are things I can't force you to do. Just be careful; I will never forgive myself if something ever happens to you," Richard said to her with a concerned tone.
"I understand, Dad, just eat your food already; you're already getting me worried; maybe I shouldn't have informed you about this," Sarah said to her uncle, and immediately he glared angrily at her.
"Even if you hadn't told me, I would have surely found out, and I would have been really mad because of that," Richard said to her.
"I'm aware of that, and that's why I informed you, so please eat your food," Sarah said to her uncle before glancing at her wristwatch.
"Dad, I need to get going; I'm already late. Please don't be worried about me; I will be fine," Sarah said to him before kissing him on the cheeks and walking away with her handbag.
Once she left, Richard sighed heavily before taking his phone and unlocking it, and with that, he opened an application that was connected to the CCTV camera of the house; through it, he could see Sarah driving out of the house with her second car.
Once she left, he immediately placed a call on someone, and after some minutes of ringing, the person was picked up.
"Good morning, Mr. Richard. How are you?" the person asked from the other end.
"Good morning, Charles. What on earth happened last night?" Richard asked Charles over the phone.
"Nothing; why do you ask?" Charles asked her.
"What do you mean by nothing? I thought we agreed that if I allowed you to date Sarah, you would protect her." Richard asked Charles over the phone.
"And that was exactly what I did; she left the restaurant before me. How was I supposed to know that someone wanted to kill her? At least I still saved her,' Charles said to Richard over the phone.
"Yes, you did, and I'm grateful for that. Please keep on protecting her just as you did yesterday," Richard said to him.
"Of course I will protect her, but don't forget to fulfill your own part of the agreement; she's still playing stubborn lady with me," Charles said to him.
"Don't worry, I'm doing my best to convince her to date you, and believe me, it won't be long before she accepts," Richard said to Charles.
"I hope so. Have a nice day, Mr. Richard," Charles said to him before hanging up.
