Chapter 112: Oughting To Escape
*A Day Before*
After calling his men and discovering that they didn't succeed in retrieving the audio recording device from Xavier, Charles collapsed on the sofa and started thinking about how he was going to get out of the mess in which he got himself.
Even though Xavier didn't agree that he was the one who placed the audio recording device in his office, Charles knew well that Xavier was the one behind it, and if he hadn't posted the audios online, it's because he was waiting for the perfect time, which was the day on which he was getting married, and if he eventually does that, not only is his reputation going to be ruined, but he might spend the rest of his life behind bars.
After discovering everything Sarah did to Xavier in the name of revenge, surely his own case was going to be worse. She will do everything in her power to make sure he spends the rest of his life behind bars.
Aside from her was the one man; surely he too won't keep silent about the issue because he knows well that Charles would be questioned while in police custody and possibly tortured in order to get the truth out of him, and in order to prevent the truth from getting out, the old man was going to make sure he eliminates him before he is questioned.
And with the type of connection the old man has, eliminating him while he is in police custody was going to be a very easy task for him.
Just a call was enough for the old man to end him and clear up every piece of information about him, and it would be as if it never happened.
As all these thoughts were running through his mind, he stood up from the sofa where he was sitting, and with that, he winced in pain. Holding his chest, he walked to the center table, where he left the bottle of whiskey. With that, he filled the glass with the whiskey and afterwards he returned to the sofa, sat down, and started sipping the alcohol.
As he was still lost in his thoughts while sipping the alcohol, his security guard walked into the sitting room.
"Good morning, boss," the security guard greeted him.
"Yes, John, is there a problem?" Charles asked him before sipping his alcohol.
"No, boss, actually, I was cross-checking the whole mansion when I noticed that the lights in the sitting room were still switched on, so I decided to come and switch it off, thinking that you forgot to switch it off while going to bed," the security guard explained to Charles, who only nodded, and with that, the security guard started walking away, but before he could reach the door, Charles called him back.
"Yes, boss," the security guard replied once he got back, wondering why Charles had called him back.
"Can I ask you a question?" Charles asked him.
"Yes, of course, boss," the security said to Charles in reply.
"What would you do if you got into a problem—I mean, a very huge problem—that you know might cost your life?" Charles asked him.
"Well, I will flee from the place where I got into the problem; if it's here in New York City, I will flee to another country, and I will never come back until the problem is resolved. I would prefer to be in hiding than to be dead," the security guard said to Charles.
'And why didn't I think about this since all this time? After all, no one knows about the audio recording, and if I decide to flee today, no one would ever suspect that I'm about to flee, not even the old man, Charles thought to himself, and immediately a wicked smirk hovered over his face.
"Thanks so much for your advice," Charles said to the security guard.
"Don't mention it, boss; is there any other you would like to ask me?" the security guard asked Charles.
"No," Charles said to him before gulping down the remaining recipient in the glass he was holding.
"Do you want to take a shot?" Charles asked the security guard, who was already walking away.
"Yes, of course, boss," he said to Charles while beaming with smiles.
"Okay, take some for yourself and get me the remaining in the bottle," Charles said to him before handing him the glass he was holding.
With that, the security went and poured some drink for himself and brought the remaining for Charles in the bottle. With that, Charles started drinking from the bottle itself.
"You can take your leave; bring back the glass when you are done," Charles said to him.
"Okay, boss," the guard said to Charles before walking away, and with that, Charles continued drinking from the bottle while thinking about the new story country he was going to flee to, how he was finally going to be free from the old man, and his stupid requests, always demanding him to do things that would put his life in danger, all because he was the one that made him who he is presently, and now he wants him to pay back with his life all in the name of freedom.
To begin, he was going to transfer all the funds from Zenith Express to his personal account, and when he got to wherever he was going, he was going to lavish the whole money however he wanted, and the remaining money he would invest in his own illegal activities and build his own emperor. In that way, even though the old man later finds him, he won't be able to do anything to him because he would already be much stronger than the old man, and he might even be the one that will take care of the old man, making sure he eliminates him, and afterwards he will come back and take care of Xavier, who is the only obstacle preventing him from claiming Sarah.
And when he's finally done with all of them, he will then claim Sarah the love of his life, and he won't need to lie to anyone about his feelings for Sarah.
As these thoughts were running through his mind, he burst into a round of manic laughter, laughing like a psychopath, not minding the fact that it was almost two AM in the morning.
