Chapter 42: Surprise Visit
"I think I'm falling in love with her," Charles said to Adrian.
"What!!" Adrian exclaimed in surprise before bursting into a round of laughter.
"What's funny with what I just said?" Charles asked Adrian with furrowed brows.
"What you just said now is a joke, right?" Adrian asked him after laughing to his satisfaction.
"No, of course, I'm damn serious," Charles said to Adrian, and immediately Adrian's demeanor changed.
From the look on Adrian's face, Charles could already tell that he didn't take what he just said lightly.
"Have you gone crazy? Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Adrian asked Charles while peering into his eyeballs.
From the way he was talking to him and looking at him, one would doubt that Charles is the CEO and Adrian is his personal assistant.
"Come on, man, why are you getting yourself worked up? I didn't say that I have fallen in love with her already; I only said that because of how my body reacted when she kissed me this morning," Charles said to Adrian.
"Look, bro, I don't know what you are thinking in that head of yours, but you better get rid of it; you well know the consequences of what you are thinking.
Falling in love with that lady is the same as falling in love with the old man's prey, and when he hears that you are going to become his enemy, and I'm 'not sure that you are going to last twenty-four hours after becoming the old man's enemy," Adrian said to Charles.
"Well, you don't need to remind me of all these; I'm fully aware of them," Charles said to Adrian.
"Then concentrate on your job and stop misbehaving. There are many girls out there you can fall in love with; must it be the old man's prey?" Adrian asked him with an unpleased tone.
"Point of correction: I didn't say I was in love with her; I was still trying to confirm it, and secondly, there might be many girls out there, but not all of them are going to peak my interest," Charles said to him.
"Whatever, you are free to fall in love with any girl that pleases you, but please stay away from the old man's prey; do what you do best and avoid getting into trouble," Adrian said to him before glancing at his wristwatch and standing up.
"Break time is over; see you in the evening," Adrian said to him before walking out of Charlesoffice.
Once he left, Charles sighed heavily.
"What on earth is my heart doing to me?" He muttered to himself before leaning back on his chair.
Sarah was inside her office, going through some files as usual, when she heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," she ordered, and immediately walked in with some documents.
Being her personal assistant, Sarah had divided the files she was working on and sent some to her to work on them too.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Sarah," Lucy greeted her once she came into the office.
"Seriously, I have told you countless times to stop addressing me as ma'am," Sarah said to her with her gaze still fixed on the computer.
"Ok, sorry, actually, I have finished working on the documents you asked me to work on," Lucy said to her.
"Ok, keep them on the desk; I will go through them when I'm done with what I'm doing," Sarah said to her before stealing a glance at her.
Without hesitating, she dropped the documents on the table and turned to walk away, but Sarah immediately called her back.
"Yes, Mrs. Sarah," Lucy answered.
"Do you want to tell me anything?" Sarah asked her before raising her head to look.
"Actually..."
"Yes or no," Sarah asked her, as she was busy stammering.
"I'm listening," Sarah said to her.
"Actually, I wanted to tell you that you were formidable during the interview; how you managed to maneuver everything is still something I can't explain," Lucy said to her.
"Thanks for the commendation; I really appreciate it," Sarah said to her.
"And also about, no, forget about it," Lucy stammered, earning herself a glare from Sarah.
"About the kiss, right?" Sarah asked her, and she nodded while avoiding Sarah's gaze.
"Lucy, you are unbelievable. Since all these years, you still haven't changed a little bit; what do you want to know about the kiss?" Sarah asked her.
"Did you kiss him in order to save your image, or was it sincere?" Lucy asked her.
"It was sincere; Mr. Charles and I are officially dating," Sarah said to her, and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.
"Wow, congratulations, Sarah; this calls for a celebration. When are we going to celebrate it?" Lucy asked Sarah.
"Within the week, but no restaurants involved," Sarah said to her.
"Jeez, it's going to be boring," Lucy said to her.
"Look, Lucy, I'm the one who got into a relationship. You can also get yourself a boyfriend, and we will celebrate it wherever you want," Sarah said to Lucy, and immediately she frowned. At the same time, Sarah's phone started ringing, and without hesitating, she took her phone and caller ID, which was her secretary.
"Hello, Lisa, how are you?" Sarah asked h
"I'm fine, ma'am; there's someone looking for you; he said his name is Mr. Renold," the secretary said to her.
"Mr. Renold? I don't have an appointment with anyone in that name. Do you know what? Show him my office if he looks presentable," Sarah said to her secretary.
"Ok, ma'am," the secretary replied before hanging up.
"Since you have a visitor, I will go back to my office," Lucy said to Sarah. She was about to walk away, but Sarah called her back again.
"Well, since you helped me to waste almost twenty minutes of my time while discussing with you, why don't you help me with the remaining files?" Sarah said to her before handing her some of the files on her table.
With a deep frown, Lucy collected the files and left her office.
Some minutes after she left, Sarah heard a knock on her door. Knowing it was the visitor, she asked the person to come inside.
Once the door burst open, Mr. Renold walked in, and once Sarah saw him, she immediately recognized him.
It was Mr. Renold, one of the shareholders of Xavier's company, who had recently withdrawn his
"What does he want?" Sarah muttered to herself once she saw him.
