Chapter 105: Unexpected Visitor
It was ten p.m. in the evening, and Sarah was sitting all alone in the sitting room, lost in her thoughts.
Justin had already slept off, and Richard, who decided to take a nap when he came back from the hospital, was still asleep.
Meanwhile, after Justin had dozed off, Sarah had returned to her room to get some sleep, but she couldn't fall asleep.
Everything Lucy had told her earlier was still replaying in her head.
After rolling on the bed for almost thirty minutes, she stood up, went to the sitting room, and sat down alone. If there was one thing she needed the most, it was a cool environment like the sitting room, where she would stay and think about the important decision she's about to take in two days.
Through out her entire life, she has never been this unsure about taking an important decision. There's this part of her that wants her to call off the wedding with Charles, after all, she presently has a reason to call it off. He fought in public despite his reputation; if he was able to allow his emotions to get the better of him in public, then that means he would probably do things that are worse than that when he's at home.
Despite all this, there's still this other part of her that doesn't want her to call off the wedding; after all, she wasn't even sure that it was Charles that created the fight between him and Xavier, and if it happens that he wasn't the one that created the fight and that he was only trying to defend himself, then she will end up sounding stupid the same way she had sounded stupid while discussing with Xavier on the phone.
"As these thoughts were running through her mind, the voice of her uncle jolted her back to reality.
"It seems like your ex-husband and fiancée have finally succeeded in giving you a sleepless night," Richard said to her before sitting down on the sofa.
"Seems so, Dad, I didn't know you would see the news this earlier," Sarah said to Richard.
"Well, I have seen it already," Richard said to her before showing her his phone.
"I still can't believe that two grownups like them engaged in a fight, ignoring their reputations and also the negative impacts it's going to have on your company," Richard said to Sarah.
"To be sincere, I'm already tired of the both of them," Sarah said to Richard, who chuckled at her expression.
"Well, you have every right to be tired; I mean, who would be in your shoes and not be tired?" Richard asked Sarah, and she sighed heavily.
"By the way, what was the cause of the fight?" Richard asked Sarah.
"Well, according to Xavier, Charles was the one who attacked him, so he was only trying to defend himself," Sarah said to Richard.
"Well, from what I saw on my phone, it seems like Charles was the victim, not Xavier. If you take a better look, you would also agree with me that Xavier really kicked Charles' ass," Richard said to Sarah with a mockery smile, and with that, Sarah rolled her eyes at him.
"Come on, Dad, this is a serious issue; I thought you wanted to help me find a way to get to the bottom of all this; I didn't know you were busy comparing between Xavier and Charles," Sarah said to Richard, and he chuckled softly at her.
"But I'm saying the truth; I mean, take a look at the picture," Richard said to Sarah while showing her the highlight image of the news on his phone.
"Tell me the truth: weren't you affected after seeing how helpless your fiancée looked before your ex-husband?" Richard asked Sarah with a sinister smile.
"Come on, Dad, I can't even imagine that you are asking me this, and to be sincere, I didn't even take a proper look at the pictures; my only problem is how to get the news off the internet for the sake of my new company," Sarah said to Richard.
"What about Charles? Where is he in all this story?" Richard asked Sarah.
"I have tried reaching him many times, but his phones are switched off," Sarah said to him.
"What? So after ruining the image of the new company, you are still struggling to build its image. He switched his phones off. He hasn't even gotten married to you, and he's already showing you how responsible he is," Richard said to Sarah with a sarcastic tone.
"Come on, Dad, don't judge him yet; I'm sure that he is soon going to call me, probably he's at the hospital. Mind you, you were the one who said Xavier kicked his ass. Probably he's at the hospital receiving some treatments," Sarah said to Richard, and he rolled his eyes at her.
"Well, defend him all you want; after all, he's your fiancée, but that isn't going to change the fact that he's irresponsible, and if he continues like this, I might end up forcing you to call off the wedding. I know that I was the one who asked you to give him a chance, but that isn't a reason for me to support you in getting married to him even after seeing how irresponsible he is," Richard said to Sarah.
"Come on, Dad, I'm not defending him; I gave Xavier the chance to explain himself, so before saying or doing anything, I will like to hear from him too; if not, it's not fair, and you well know that," Sarah said to Richard, who didn't even bother giving her a reply; instead, he only mumbled some words that she couldn't hear, and at the same time, they heard a knock on the door, and with that, Richard looked at Sarah with a furrowed, wondering who would be knocking at the door by this time of the night and why the security guard allowed him in.
"Who is that?" Sarah asked while raising her voice a little bit so that the person could hear her from behind the door.
"It's me; please come and open." Charles voice sounded from outside, and with that, Sarah gave Richard a look, meaning I told you, and with that, she started heading to the door to open it.
Getting to the door, she opened it only to meet Charles, whose left hand was bandaged, and on his other hand was a buck of flowers.
"What the hell happened to you?" Sarah asked him, seeing his bandaged hand.
To be continued...
