Chapter 115: The Audio Recording
Meanwhile, Sarah could be seen in her car, feeling as restless as never before.
She still couldn't bring herself to believe that Charles abandoned her on their wedding day.
Even though it wasn't yet confirmed that he wouldn't arrive, it was already clear that he wouldn't be present; after all, it's been more than two hours since she has been waiting for him, and his line wasn't going through either.
Well, the fact that he abandoned her wasn't the main issue; after all, she wasn't fully into the wedding; she had always had second thoughts about the wedding, so even though he didn't show up, it was still good. The main issue was the impact it was going to have on her afterwards, especially on her companies. The fact that she was the one who was abandoned was going to make everyone think that she's the bad person while Charles is the good person. After all, why would a man in his right senses abandon his fiancée on their wedding day unless she did something horrible to him?
As these thoughts were running through Sarah's mind, she shook her head in disbelief, and at the same time, she remembered how everyone had asked her not to get married to Charles, especially Xavier and her son, and even her uncle, who was in support of it at the beginning, started asking her to call it off at the last minute, but she refused, all in the name of safeguarding her reputation and that of her company. But right now, the same reputation and company she was trying to save were about to crumble before her because of the same wedding.
Meanwhile, Lucy, who was sitting beside her, kept staring silently at her, not knowing the right words she could say in order to console her friend.
"Try reaching out to him again; probably he had some inconveniences preventing him from coming," Lucy said to Sarah after some minutes of silence in an attempt to calm the tension in the car.
"Inconveniences?" Sarah asked Lucy before chuckling sadly.
"What type of inconveniences would prevent someone from being present on his wedding day? Even if he had one, couldn't he at least call me and tell me instead of making a fool out of me?" Sarah asked Lucy before chuckling sadly, but Lucy, on the other hand, not knowing what to say, only held her hand in a consoling manner.
"How could I have been this stupid to believe a man again after what Xavier did to me? I should have known that they are all the same, birds of the same feathers," Sarah cursed angrily, and at the same time, tears started streaming down her cheeks.
"Hey Sarah, it's okay; please stop crying; he doesn't deserve your tears," Lucy said to Sarah before hugging her.
"Of course he doesn't shed my tears, and I'm not crying because of him; I'm crying because of how naive I have been and the whole mess I have gotten myself into," Sarah said to Lucy while hugging her.
"Don't worry, we will surely find a way out of this, and Charles might still show up after all," Lucy said to Sarah, and immediately she pulled away from the hug.
"Well, he better not, because I won't proceed with the wedding anymore, so he better stay wherever he is," Sarah said to Lucy, and she sighed heavily.
"Thank goodness you have finally come back to your senses. Now let's start thinking about how to get out of here without being blocked by the thousands of reporters waiting outside and afterwards how to shift the whole blame to Charles," Lucy said to Sarah, and at the same time someone knocked on the window of the door. With that, they turned around to see Richard, and without hesitating, Sarah whined the glass of the window down.
"Any news?" Sarah asked him.
"Yes,I got the news that your husband to be left New York City this morning," Richard said to Sarah, and immediately she chuckled sadly before shaking her head in disbelief.
"What was the essence of organizing this marriage if he knew that he was leaving New York City today?" Sarah asked her uncle with a sad smile.
"Well, I'm confused just as you are, but believe me, there is more to this marriage and only time can tell," Richard said to Sarah, and she shook her head in disbelief.
"What do we do now, and how do I get out of here with all these reporters waiting outside?" Sarah asked her uncle.
"First, I have to go and inform everyone that the wedding has been cancelled, and afterwards, we will find another car with tinted windows with which we can leave without anyone noticing it," Richard said to Sarah.
"Well, that's a good idea, even if it's not going to prevent the aftermath of this ceremony," Sarah said to Richard, and he heaved a sigh.
"Please give me some minutes; I will be back soon," Richard said to Sarah before walking away and walking into the church. He could clearly see the eyes of everyone on him as he walked into the church. From their facial expressions, he could already tell that they were all seeking an answer; everyone wanted to know why the bride and groom hadn't yet arrived and why the wedding ceremony hadn't yet commenced.
Without looking at anyone, Richard climbed the alter and took the microphone.
"Good day, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you all for honoring our invitation and being present; we really appreciate it. But unfortunately, there were some inconveniences, so I'm sorry to inform you all that the wedding has been cancelled," Richard said to them, and immediately everyone in the church started murmuring words among each other, others cursing Richard even though they didn't say it out loudly. At the same time, Xavier sent a message to Ben asking him to release the audio if he was already done with it.
"Once again, we are sincerely sorry about the inconveniences," Richard said to them before getting down from the altar, and at the same time, the guests started standing up from their seats, ready to walk out, but suddenly the audio recording of the conversation of Adrian and Charles started playing, and immediately everywhere became silent; only what could be heard was the audio recording that was playing.
"Who on earth is playing that? Is that not the voice of the groom? So he never loved the bride after all? Who on earth is the old man?"These were the questions that the guests were all asking themselves as the audio recording was playing, while others brought out their phones and started recording it, including the reporters who had disguised themselves as guests in order to be able to report about the wedding since reporters weren't allowed to get inside.
Meanwhile, Richard stood where he was, his legs rooted to the ground as he was overwhelmed by shock.
