Chapter 111: Escaped
It was a fifteen-minute ride from the church to Charles's mansion.
Getting to the mansion, Adrian pulled over in front of the mansion before walking to the gate and placing a knock on the gate, but got no response after some minutes of waiting.
Sighing heavily, he knocked on the gate once again, but this time more harder, thinking that the security guard watching over the gate would probably be sleeping or didn't hear the knock.
But after some minutes of waiting, he still didn't get any reply. This time around, he didn't need a fortune teller before knowing that something wasn't right.
Taking hold of the handle of the gate, he tried pushing it backwards to see if it was open, but unfortunately, it was firmly locked.
"Damnit," he muttered to himself before ruffling his hair in frustration, and at the same time, he remembered that he had the spare key to the gate. Charles had sent him once to go and get him some documents he forgot at home, but on returning, Charles wasn't around, so he didn't give him back the keys, and since then, Charles hasn't remembered to collect the keys from him again.
Without hesitating, he ran back to his car, opened the glove compartment, and started searching for the key inside.
After some minutes of searching, he found it, and without hesitating, he ran back to the gate, inserted it into the keyhole, opened the gate, and walked in.
Walking inside, he noticed that the whole mansion was as silent as a graveyard; even the security guard who watches over the gate wasn't present.
Digging his hand into the side pocket of his suit, he brought out his gun, crocked it, and started walking into the mansion while being careful not to make a noise.
Getting to the front door, he held the handle and slowly pulled it down, and to his greatest surprise, the door wasn't even locked. After some minutes of hesitation, he slowly pushed the door open and walked in, only to meet all the security guards lying on the sofas.
At first, he thought that they were dead, but when he approached one of them and placed his palm on his neck to check if he was still breathing, he realized that he was still breathing, and without hesitating, he started hitting him so that he could stand up, but he didn't. It was then that he realized that he and the others had probably passed out.
Looking around, he saw the bottle of alcohol on the table, a jug of water, and a cup.
Without thinking twice, he took the empty cup, filled it with water, and started spraying it on the men one after the other.
After some minutes of spraying, they started walking up while yawning.
Angered by their reactions, Adrian filed the cup once again and started pouring it on, jolting completely back to reality.
Once they saw Adrian standing in front of them, his eyes blazing in anger as he was staring at them, they all got on their feet and started greeting him, but he ignored their greetings while glaring angrily at them.
"Where is your boss?" He asked them after some minutes of silence.
"Boss? Boss? They started asking each other in surprise while avoiding Adrian's angry gaze.
"Answer me!!" Adrian growled angrily at them, and immediately they turned towards him while avoiding his gaze.
"We don't know where he is," one of the men said to Adrian, and out of anger, he immediately shot him on the leg, and immediately the man fell down while groaning painfully.
"For the second time, where the hell is your boss?" Adrian thundered angrily at the men, but due to how frightened they were, none of them was able to utter a word; instead, they started shivering in fear.
"Is someone going to answer, or do you guys want me to shoot one of you again before you start talking?" Adrian thundered angrily at them.
"Actually," one of the men who managed to muster up a little courage started stammering, and with that, Adrian glared at him angrily, urging him to speak up properly.
"Actually, after preparing for the wedding, he had invited us to have some drinks with him. Since today was the happiest day of his life, he wanted to celebrate it first with us, who have been ensuring his security for all these years.
So when we gathered here in the sitting room, he filled our glasses with the whiskey, and without thinking twice, we gulped it down, and in the seconds that followed, we started feeling dizzy. What happened next is what we don't know," the man explained to Adrian.
"Shit," he muttered to himself before ruffling his hair in frustration.
"After pouring you guys the drink, did he also pour one for himself?" Adrian asked them.
"Actually, we didn't pay attention," one of the men said to Adrian while trembling in fear.
Without uttering a word to them, Adrian took the bottle of whiskey on the table and smelled it, and immediately he realized that Charles had drugged the whiskey before pouring it for the men.
"Damnit," he muttered to himself before throwing the bottle at the men, but fortunately they were able to dodge it before it could hit them.
Ruffling his hair in frustration, Adrian tried thinking about where Adrian would have gone, and after some minutes of reflection, the idea to go and check his room suddenly popped into his head. Without thinking twice, he ran upstairs to go and check Charles' room.
Getting to the room, he realized that the door was locked. Without hesitating, he started banging himself against the door. After some attempts, he finally broke down the door, and with that, he walked into the room. But on getting inside, he widened his eyes in surprise; none of Charles's clothes nor belongings were in the room.
With what he was seeing, he didn't need a fortune teller before knowing that Charles had already left New York City.
To be continued.
