Chapter 32:Taking Lucy Out (2)
It was a fifteen-minute ride from the company to the restaurant. Once they got to the restaurant, Sarah widened her eyes in surprise, seeing how huge the restaurant was. It was partly a restaurant and a nightclub.
Judging from the disco lights, the parking lot, the building, and the people entering and coming out of the restaurant, one could already tell that it was a restaurant frequented by rich people.
"Jeez, Lucy, I said a restaurant, not a nightclub," Sarah said to Lucy, who was busy applying some makeup to her face with her makeup kits.
"Don't worry, it's merged with a restaurant," Lucy said to Sarah before passing her the makeup kit she was holding.
"And why are you giving me this?" Sarah asked her with furrowed brows.
"What is a makeup kit used for? Polish your face a little bit; you look awful," Lucy said to Sarah, and immediately she sighed heavily before returning the makeup kit to Lucy.
"I have mine in my bag, and I don't see any reason why I should polish my face; we are just going to grab dinner and discuss a little bit before going back home," Sarah said to Lucy, who frowned immediately.
"Since when did you become this dull? Don't tell me it's also the effect of giving birth," Lucy said to Sarah.
"No, of course; it's just that I'm not in the mood for partying," Sarah said to Lucy grumpily.
"And can I know the last time you partied? If I'm not mistaken, for the past five years, all you have done is work, work, and work. When are you finally going to enjoy all this money you have been working hard to earn? Is it when you get old?" Lucy asked Sarah with an inquisitive look.
"Well, I'm saving up the money for my son," Sarah said to Lucy, who glared angrily.
"You know you shouldn't be looking at your boss like this," Sarah said to Lucy, who was still glaring at her angrily.
"Well, we aren't in the company, so please polish your face. Let's get going. Don't forget that we are still going to work tomorrow," Lucy said to Sarah, and immediately she sighed before taking her makeup kit from her bag and applying it to her face.
"Wow! To be honest with you, you look like the CEO of Ethic Textiles," Lucy said to Sarah when she was done applying the make-up.
"What are you talking about? Am I not the CEO of Ethic Textiles?" Sarah asked Lucy before keeping the makeup kit back inside her bag.
"Well, you didn't look like one before, but now you look like one," Lucy said to Sarah.
"Whatever, let's just get going," Sarah said to Lucy before stepping down from the car, and immediately Sarah too came down, and with that, they started heading towards the entrance of the restaurant.
Once they approached the entrance and the security guard saw Sarah, he immediately greeted her before bowing his head in a sign of respect, and with that, Sarah replied to the greeting before walking in with Lucy.
When they got inside, the receptionist greeted them before leading them to one of the empty seats. As they were heading towards the empty seats, the other men who were in the restaurant couldn't help but steal glances, especially at Sarah, but none of them had the courage to approach them and talk to them due to the fact that some of them were already with their partners and others knew how rich the woman in question was, and anything they did or said to her might get them in trouble.
Once they took their seats, a waitress approached them and took their orders before walking away. From where they were, they could see the people on the other side dancing loudly and rocking behind their partners.
Looking at this, Sarah could clearly remember when she was still in university with Lucy, and this was almost her every-day routine, both for her and Lucy.
After some minutes, their table was filled with the food and drinks they had ordered.
"Wow, Sarah, is all this just for both of us?" Lucy asked Sarah in awe; actually, she had asked Sarah to order the same thing for both of them.
"Yes, of course, just dig in; we can take the remaining food back home," Sarah said to Lucy, who nodded in reply before beginning to eat her own food.
"By the way, there's something I have been wanting to ask you, but I always forget," Sarah said to Lucy, who was still eating her food.
"Why weren't you working in your father's company after graduating from university?" Sarah asked Lucy, and immediately she stopped eating.
"My father died some months after I graduated. Just some weeks after his death, his first wife presented herself with his son, and since my father didn't write his last will before passing away, his son claimed all his properties, including companies, leaving us with nothing.
Due to everything, first losing her husband and then discovering that he had another wife and kids, my mother fell terribly ill, and almost everything we had as money was used for her treatment. At the same time, I couldn't find work anywhere, and my stepbrother also refused to employ me. I had no other choice but to accept the only job I saw, which was working in a hotel.
Even though the payment wasn't much, at least it was sufficient to pay my brother's school fees and also take care of myself and my mother," Lucy explained to Sarah with a dejected tone before resuming to eat her.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all this," Sarah said to her.
"It's okay; at least you have already employed me, and the salary is three times what I was paid at the hotel; I'm very grateful for that," Lucy said to Sarah.
"Don't mention it; what are friends for?" Sarah asked Lucy, and at the same time, one of the waiters approached her and handed her a piece of paper before walking away.
Furrowing her brows in surprise, she opened the piece of paper on which it was written, "LOOK BACK." Without hesitating, she slowly looked back, and immediately her jaw dropped in surprise.
To Be Continued.
