Chapter 45: Threatened
"Sir, I'm still surprised that she allowed you to enter her car," Ben said to Xavier before looking at him through the central mirror of the car.
"Yeah, I was surprised too. I thought she was going to call the security on me or something like that, but she did nothing of the sort. By the way, did you find out anything about Charles?" Xavier asked him.
"No, sir; aside from the things we already know, I didn't find out any other thing," Ben said to him.
"Well, keep on searching; I just have this strong feeling that he's hiding something, but I can't yet get a grasp of what it is. But just keep on searching; if you notice anything strange, just let me know," Xavier said to Ben with his gaze still fixed on his phone.
"Okay," Ben said to him in reply.
After some minutes, an incoming call from an unknown number popped into Xavier's phone, narrowing his brows in surprise. He picked up the phone and placed it on his ear.
"Hello, who is this?" Xavier asked through the phone. .
"Hello Xavier, how are you doing?" Charles' voice sounded through the phone, and immediately Xavier scoffed inwardly.
"What's with the anonymous call? Don't tell me you have lost your phone," Xavier said to him, and immediately Charles burst into a round of laughter.
"Of course I didn't lose my phone; is it even possible for the great Charles of New York City to lose his phone?" He asked Xavier, who scoffed inwardly once again before shaking his head in disbelief.
"If I had called with an anonymous line, it's because I was afraid that you wouldn't pick up when you saw my number," Charles said to him.
"And why won't I pick up the call of the great Charles of New York City?" Xavier asked him with a mocking tone.
"Well, probably because you knew that you had trespassed on my territory," Charles said to him over the phone.
"You see, Charles, I had a long day at work today. I will appreciate it if you go straight to the point," Xavier said to him.
"I heard from one of my reliable sources that you went to my woman's computer, and you even entered inside her car; but since I'm not someone who judges matters from one person's statement, I decided to call you to ask if you really did it," Charles said to Xavier.
"If I recall correctly, the person's car I entered today aside from mine is that of Sarah; I don't remember entering anyone's car aside from the two," Xavier said to him.
"And who do you think that Sarah is to me?" Charles asked Xavier.
"I don't have any idea, but since we are discussing, why don't you tell me immediately?" Xavier said to him.
"Let's stop with the pretense, Mr. Xavier Quim; we both know that Sarah is my woman, so I will advise you to keep off," Charles said to him.
"I would have loved to keep off just as you said, but I don't remember you getting married to Sarah. How can you call a lady you aren't married to or engaged to your woman?" Xavier asked Charles over the phone.
"I don't have time to exchange words with you; you are free to go anywhere you want or visit anywhere you want, but I will advise you to stay away from anywhere Sarah is," Charles said to Xavier.
"Mr. Charles, Sarah isn't your property, your child, or your wife, so you don't have any right to decide who comes near her and who she interacts with; you said that she's your woman, but tell me, do you love her?" Xavier asked him.
"If I don't love her, I wouldn't be calling her my woman," Charles said to Xavier.
"We both know that you are lying; even if we use a lying detector to check, it will show that you are lying. I don't know what you are up to, but I will advise you to back off because it's not going to work as long as I'm alive," Xavier said to him with a firm tone.
"Tell me, have you ever heard the saying that charity begins at home? You are a married man with a kid; I will advise you to concentrate on your wife and kid instead of worrying about Sarah. You already had fun with her, so why don't you allow me to have fun with her too if that's what I'm planning to do?" Charles asked Xavier.
"Is that a question or a statement?" Xavier asked Charles over the phone.
"The choice is yours; if you think that it's a statement, then it's a statement, but if you think that it's a question, then it's a question. I have said this before and I will say it again. Stay away from Sarah; it's for your own good," Charles said to Xavier with a threatening tone.
"The only thing you will do that will make me stay away from Sarah is getting married to her, but as long as you haven't married her, you will always see me with her, in her car, in her house, and everywhere," Xavier said to Charles with a daring tone.
"Mr. Xavier, you don't know what you are getting yourself into; don't say I didn't warn you. Have a nice and splendid evening," Charles said to him before hanging up.
"Fool," Charles muttered with gritted teeth once the call ended.
"That fool is hiding something, and whatever he is hiding has something to do with Sarah; make sure you find out what he is hiding and make it snappy," Xavier said to Ben, who had already driven into the mansion.
"Don't worry, boss, I won't stop until I find out what he's up to," Ben said to Xavier, who heaved a sigh before getting down from the car with his briefcase, and without hesitating, he started walking inside.
Once he walked into the sitting room, he saw Claudia coming down the stairs with her luggage.
"Where are you going with that?" Xavier asked her once she came down.
"I'm leaving?" Claudia said to him with no emotion.
"What?" Xavier asked her in surprise.
