Chapter 127: Standing Out For Her
It was a Tuesday morning. Sarah was supposed to meet up with a new client who she wanted to finalize a very important deal that will profit the company enormously. They were supposed to finalize the deal a week or two after her marriage with Charles, but since the marriage didn't take place anymore, she called the client and asked him if he would be able to come over during the week so that they could finalize the deal. Since the client was a little bit free, he told her that he would come over the following day, which is Tuesday.
Walking into the company, Sarah went to her office and dropped her bag before taking all the necessary documents that were needed for the finalization of the deal, and with that, she started heading to the conference room where the meeting was going to take place. Getting into the conference room, she was surprised to see only Xavier and the secretary inside the conference room discussing with each other, but the client wasn't present.
Seeing them, she immediately got angry, not because the client hadn't arrived yet but because of how Xavier and the secretary were busy talking and laughing. She knew she wasn't supposed to get angry because of that, but she just couldn't help it.
"Good morning, Mrs. Sarah," the secretary greeted her after standing up.
"Good morning, Sarah, How are you?" Xavier also greeted her, but unlike the secretary, he didn't stand up.
"It seems like there's nothing else to do in the company, and that's why both of you were busy discussing and laughing as if you were at your various homes," Sarah said to them before sitting.
"No, ma'am, we were actually waiting for the arrival of the client," the secretary said to Sarah, seeing how unhappy she was.
"Since he hasn't yet arrived, you could have returned to your office and continued with the other things you have to do for the day instead of staying here doing nothing," Sarah said to her with a disapproving tone.
"But you were the one who told us yesterday that the client would be here by eight AM and we should already be here before then, or am I mistaken?" Xavier asked her, not liking the way she was addressing the secretary as if she did something wrong. If she had woken up on the bad side of the bed, it's not the secretary's fault, and it's not on her; she should take it out.
After staring at Xavier with a deadly glare for some minutes, she was about to talk when the door burst open and one of the employees led the client, who was Mr. Shawn, with his personal assistant into the conference room.
"Good morning, Mr. Shawn; you are welcome," Sarah said to him before stretching out her hand for a handshake, which he reciprocated before sitting down. From his facial expression, Xavier could already tell that something was wrong. Reading the facial expression of the client before the beginning of a meeting is something he always does; that helps him to know the kind of approach to take with the client. Bringing out his phone from his pocket, he quickly sent the man's name to Ben and asked him to run a background check on him and get back to him immediately.
After the greetings, the secretary stood up and took the documents and gave them to the client so that he could go through them and see if they were the same as the sample that was given to him earlier; if they were, he could go on and sign them, finalizing the deal.
After going through the document, the client and his assistant started muttering some words among themselves, and at the same time, Xavier received a message from Ben, and with that, he started going through the information sent to him about the client by Ben.
"Mr. Shawn, I hope everything is okay." Sarah, who was already tired of watching him whisper with his assistant, asked him.
"Yes, Mrs. Sarah, everything is okay; we are just having second thoughts about signing this deal with your company," he said to Sarah, who furrowed her brows at him, including Xavier.
"And why are you having second thoughts?" Sarah asked him with furrowed brows.
"Well, the constant scandals you have been having recently are already enough reason to have doubts," the client said to Sarah, who was still confused by what he was saying.
"What scandals are you talking about, please?" Sarah asked him while peering directly into his eyeballs.
"Well, you were supposed to get married last week, but you didn't, and up to now none of us is already sure of the main reason why your fiance didn't show up on your wedding day. Five years ago, you also divorced Mr. Xavier, who you turned today into your personal assistant.
If you weren't able to take care of your recent relationships, then how can we trust that you can take care of this important project?" The man asked Sarah, who was already burning in rage but was trying her best to suppress her anger.
"That was really a nice speech, Mr. Shawn," Xavier said to him, and immediately everyone turned their gaze towards him.
"If I'm not mistaken, two of your daughters are currently divorced, true or false?" Xavier asked him, taking him aback, but he remained silent, knowing he was saying the truth.
"Well, I will take that as a yes," Xavier said to him without sparing a glance at Sarah. "If you weren't able to teach your two daughters how to build and maintain their home when they get married, then what right do you have to judge another person? The time you are using to judge someone who wants to help your company that is slowly falling into bankruptcy, you can use it to advise your second daughter to go and look for something doing so that she won't divorce another man, thinking she will get half of his properties, or were you the one who advised her to do it?" Xavier asked him with a mockery tone, and immediately he banged his fist on the table before standing up.
"Mr. Xavier or whatever they call you, you mind how you talk to me or I will ruin your already ruined life," he said to Xavier with a threatening tone.
"And why don't you get the hell out of here before I tell the security to throw you out?" Xavier asked him, and after looking at Xavier for some minutes, he turned and walked out of the conference room with his colleague.
"Go and make sure he is out of this company, and if he hesitates, alert the securities," Xavier said to the secretary, who nodded in reply before walking out also.
"Thank you," Sarah said to him after everyone had left.
"Don't mention it; even if you hate me, that won't stop me from standing out for you," Xavier said to her, but she only looked at him without saying anything.
"I will get you another client who you will collaborate with," Xavier said to her, and immediately she furrowed her brows, wondering where he was going to get the client from. As she was about to ask him, her phone suddenly started ringing, and without asking, she took it and checked the caller ID, which was her uncle, before picking it up.
"Hello, Dad," Sarah said to him.
"Yes, Sarah, where are you?" Richard asked her
"The company, of course," Sarah said to him.
"Switch on the television and turn to any news channel," Richard said to her.
"Okay, Dad," Sarah said to him before standing up and walking to where the remote of the television in the conference room was, and with that, she switched it on and started searching for a news channel and at the same time wondering what the issue was.
