Chapter 27: Hardest Mission
"I would have really loved to offer you a ride, but you are still owing me something," Charles said to her as she was stepping down from her own car.
"What is it that I'm owing you?" Sarah asked him after getting out of the car.
"You still haven't thanked me for saving your life," Charles said to her.
"Ooh, pardon me for that; thank you for saving me; I would have actually been dead by now if not for you; and sorry for also calling you a murderer," Sarah said to Charles with an apologetic tone.
"Apologies accepted; let's get going; the cops will be here soon; I don't want to be the one to answer their questions," Charles said to Sarah, who nodded in reply before following him from behind.
As they were heading towards Charle's car, Sarah could see the bodies of the four men lying lifelessly on the ground with blood gushing out of their foreheads. From the view of things, it was clear that Charles had shot all of them at the same spot, which was their forehead; probably that was to make sure that none of them survived.
Once they got to where the car was, Charles opened the door for her, and she got in. Subsequently, he closed it and entered inside too, and without hesitating, he ignited the car and zoomed off.
"I must admit that you are really a good fighter," Sarah said to Charles after some minutes of silence.
Why do you say so?" Charles asked her with furrowed brows.
"Only you managed to kill four armed men with just a little gun," she said to Charles, and immediately he turned and looked at her before smiling at himself.
"No gun is small; no matter how small it is, it's still made for one purpose, which is to kill, and as for the men, they were good shooters but untrained ones," Charles said to Sarah with his gaze still fixed on the steering.
"By the way, who were those men, and why did they want to kill you?" Charles asked Sarah before stealing a glance at her.
"I have no idea; I have never seen them before. I know that I have many enemies, but I don't know that there were some who wanted me dead," Sarah said to Charles, and once again he looked at her before smiling again.
"If your enemies don't want you dead, then they aren't your enemies," Charles said to her, and immediately she furrowed her brows at him.
"Really? I have many enemies, but I don't want them dead. I prefer to see them suffer than to see them dead," Sarah said to Charles, who was still concentrated on the steering.
"Your own type of enemy is from a different category, and probably most of them are women, and women are not used to wishing death for their enemies. Just as you said, you guys prefer to see your enemies suffer than see them dead, but as for us men, we prefer for our enemies to be dead than to stay alive and be suffering because as long as they are alive, they will always be threats to us," Charles said to Sarah.
"So you mean you have enemies who want to put you to death?" Sarah asked Charles with a surprised tone.
"Yes, of course. Do you think that it's for nothing that I possess a gun? From what happened tonight, it's clear that there's someone who now wants you dead," Charles said to Sarah before stealing a glance at her to see if she was frightened by his statements. But from his facial expressions, there was no sign of fright on her face, but deep down she was frightened. Being someone who knew how to conceal her emotions, Charles couldn't tell if she was frightened or not.
"What do you suggest I do? Should I get a gun too?" Sarah asked Charles, and immediately he turned and looked at her before returning his gaze towards the steering.
"With the way you were trembling when I approached you after killing those men, it's already evident that you can't use a gun, and even if you had the possibility to use it, I wouldn't agree to it. You are too innocent to make use of a weapon; what you need is someone who will protect you," Charles said to her before stealing a glance at her.
"You mean a bodyguard?" Sarah asked him.
"Maybe, but why will you be needing a bodyguard while I'm here?" Charles asked her.
"You mean you want to become my bodyguard?" Sarah asked him with furrowed brows.
"Not actually, I mean the other way around; you give me a chance to become your boyfriend, and I will make sure that no one touches the hair on your head," Charles said to her.
"You really don't know how to give up, do you?" Sarah asked him, and he shook his head negatively.
"I thought I had told you that giving up isn't my thing. Believe me, I'm not giving up until you finally give me a chance, and before you say anything, just know that I'm not Xavier; I don't know what he did to you, but believe me, that's not going to be my case; the only thing I have to offer you is my love; when it comes to money, you already have money," Charles said to Sarah, and she sighed heavily.
"To be sincere, Charles, I really want to give you a chance, but I have many demons I'm battling against, and I don't want to get you or anyone else involved in my personal battles," Sarah said to Charles with a sincere tone.
"We all have a demon we are battling with; why don't you allow me to help you battle your demons? I will be really glad to help," Charles said to Sarah, and she sighed heavily.
"For now, I can't say yes or no to you; maybe with time I will. I hope you have a stock of patience to wait for me whenever I'm ready?" Sarah asked him.
"Yes I have magazines of it, at least you said with time, so that means there's hope," Charles said to her.
"There's always hope; in case you find someone else who captures your heart like me, feel free to move on," Sarah said to Charles, and at the same time, he stopped in front of their mansion.
"That's never going to happen," Charles said to her with a determined tone.
"Don't be too sure," Sarah said to him before opening the door of the car and getting down.
"Thanks for the ride and for saving me; I really appreciate it," Sarah said to him after getting down.
"Don't mention it; have a good and pleasant night," Charles said to her.
"Same to you," Sarah said to him before walking into the mansion.
Once she left, Charles sighed heavily.
"This is one of the hardest missions I have ever been assigned to," Charles muttered to himself before zooming off.
