Chapter 23: The Dinner
Lucy had come earlier in the morning, just as Sarah had instructed her the previous day at the party; she was already at the company even before Sarah's arrival.
Once Sarah came and saw her, she asked her to follow her to her office for the interview.
When they got into her office, Lucy couldn't help but admire how beautiful Sarah's office was; both the decorations and her pictures hung in her office.
As Lucy was still busy admiring Sarah's office, Sarah kept her bag on her desk before keeping the files she was holding on it.
After sitting down, she cleared her throat, jolting Lucy, who was still staring in awe, back to reality.
"If you are done admiring, please have a seat," Sarah said to Lucy, and without hesitating, she adjusted the chair and sat down.
"Your CV, please," Sarah said to her, and without hesitating, Lucy brought it out and handed it to her with other documents she brought along.
After going through it for some minutes, Sarah heaved a sigh before looking at her.
"I want to make you my personal assistant; is that okay with you?" Sarah asked Lucy, who beamed in smiles immediately.
"Yes, of course. Who will refuse an opportunity like this?" Lucy asked Sarah while beaming in smiles.
"Here's everything you need to know about the job, both your payments and the rules and regulations," Sarah said to her before handing her a document with her file.
"Thanks for the opportunity; I will go through it thoroughly."
"Well, you can start tomorrow if that's okay with you," Sarah said to her.
"But I can start right away," Lucy said to her.
"Really?" Sarah asked her, and she nodded in reply.
"Well, if you say so, no problem; a minute, please," Sarah said to her before taking a phone and placing a call through the secretary.
"You can go and see the secretary; she will show you your office," Sarah said to Lucy, who stood up and thanked her again before walking out.
It was almost six p.m. in New York City. The sun had returned to its resting place, making way for a neutral atmosphere. Meanwhile, Sarah was inside her office going through the files she had asked her secretary to work on. As she was going through them, her phone started ringing. Sighing heavily, she took the phone and checked the caller ID, which was Charles. At the same time, she remembered that she had an appointment with him by seven p.m..
After some minutes of hesitation, she picked up the call and placed the phone in her ear.
"Hello, Mr. Charles, How are you?" Sarah asked him after picking him up.
"I'm good. What about you?" Charles asked her through the phone.
"I'm good too," Sarah said to him in reply.
"I wanted to remind you of our dinner this evening; I hope you haven't forgotten." Charles asked her.
"Of course I haven't forgotten," Sarah said to him.
OK, but you haven't told me where we are going to have the dinner," Charles said to her.
"The same restaurant where we had a meeting the last time," Sarah said to him.
"I was planning to take you to one of the most expensive restaurants in New York City, but since you have already made your choice, no problem; just as I said the last time, your wish is my command," Charles said to her through the phone, and immediately she rolled her eyes angrily as if he were right in front of her.
"I will be there by seven p.m.; please try to be there on time, unlike the previous time," Sarah said to him.
"Yes, ma'am, I will be there on time," Xavier said to her, and immediately Sarah hung up before dropping the phone on her desk and resuming what she was doing.
In less than twenty minutes, she was already done with the files. Heaving a sigh of relief, she stood up and arranged the files on the shelves, and afterward, she arranged her tattered table before taking her bag and some files that she wanted to show her uncle and walking out of the office.
Once she came out, Lucy ran towards her, collected the files from her, and started heading towards the garage.
"Hope you enjoyed your first day of work." Sarah asked her.
"Yes, of course, ma'am. Thanks for the opportunity once again," Lucy said to Sarah, and immediately she stopped and turned her gaze towards her.
"You don't need to address me as ma'am; I will really appreciate it if you continue to see me as your best friend. It's true that I might be a little strict with you or act professionally during working periods, but after that, just treat me like your best friend," Sarah said to Lucy, and she nodded.
I was thinking about inviting you out this evening like in the old days so that we can do some catch-up, but unfortunately, I have something very urgent I have to take care of this evening; we will leave it for tomorrow then," Sarah said to Lucy before unlocking her car.
"That sounds great. I also have a lot of things I want to discuss with you," Lucy said to her before opening the car and keeping the files she was holding on the passenger seat of the car.
With that, Sarah too opened the door of the car and entered inside.
"Thanks for helping me with the files; see you tomorrow then," Sarah said to Lucy after entering the car.
"See you tomorrow," Lucy said to her. She was about to walk away, and immediately Sarah called her back.
"One last thing, please. I hope you went through the rules and regulations I gave you." Sarah asked her, and she nodded.
"What did the first article say?" Sarah asked her.
"It is about punctuality," Lucy said to her.
"I'm happy that you remembered it because I hate it when any of my employees go against that rule. See you tomorrow," Sarah said to her before closing the door. With that she waved at her, before zooming off.
