Chapter 51: Hold Her On Your Hook
Adrian was in Charles' office as usual, with his two legs placed on his desk, as he was busy manipulating his phone while awaiting Charles' arrival.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and immediately Charles walked into the office.
Once Adrian saw the deadly look on his face, he immediately jolted up from his chair, leaving the road for him to go and sit down.
Without uttering a single word to Adrian, he removed his jacket and kept it on the edge of his chair before sitting down and sighing heavily.
Opening the drawer of his desk, he took a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and was about to lighten it when Adrian's voice interrupted him.
"You aren't planning to smoke in the office, or are you?" Adrian asked him, and immediately he sighed heavily before returning the cigarette and lighter back to the drawer.
"What happened?" Adrian asked him.
"She found him before us; I don't know how she managed to do it; my men almost had him; the only thing remaining was getting the boy into the van without anyone noticing it, and boom, she arrived, and just like Superman, she took him before us," Charles said to Adrian before banging his desk angrily.
"Chill, bro, that's called mother instinct; how she managed to find the child is something you can never understand; you have to be a mother to understand it," Adrian said to Charles.
"Whatever bro, mother instinct my foot, if she knew she was going to find her kid before me, then why did she call me in the first place? Now the old man is going to see me as a failure once again," Charles said to Adrian.
"Come on, bro, some days are like that; you should actually call the old man and inform him about it," Adrian said to him, and with that, he took his phone and placed a call across the old man, who picked up after some minutes of ringing.
"Hello Charles, let me guess you didn't find him, right?" The old man asked him.
"No, sir, she found him before us," Charles said to him.
"Well, I was already expecting that, but it doesn't matter; at least we know that Sarah has a child, and we also know who the child is. Even if you didn't succeed in abducting him today, we will succeed next time. For the meantime, hold Sarah by your hook; we can't throw away the silver in our possession because of the gold we are still yet to find," the old man said to him.
"No problem, sir; I will do exactly as you say," Charles said to him.
"Okay, son, have a nice day," the old man said to him before hanging up.
"What did he say?" Adrian asked Charles once he hung up the call.
"He asked me to keep Sarah on my hook as usual," Charles said to him.
"So did he call you a failure, just as you had predicted?" Charles asked him.
"No, of course," Charles said to him.
"You see, in this life, ninety percent of the things we predict rarely happen; only ten percent of them sometimes happen," Adrian said to him.
"I think you are right about that, but believe me, the old man might not have told me that I was a failure, but he said it in his mind," Charles said to Adrian, who scoffed at him.
"Whatever bro, by the way, have you called her?" Adrian asked him.
"No of course, normally she's the one who is supposed to call me, not the other way around. Her son got lost, and she asked me to help her find him. Normally, since she has found him, she's supposed to call me and inform me that she has found him. What if I wasn't aware of that and my men were still out there looking for him?" Charles asked Adrian.
"Come on, bro, you know how women are; probably she has been so overjoyed that she even forgot that she had asked you for help, so give her a call and play the affected," Adrian said to him, and immediately he frowned at him before taking his phone and placing a call through Sarah.
"If I'm calling her, it's because you asked me to; if not, I will never call her," Charles said to Adrian with a deep frown as the phone was ringing.
"Just shut up and check your phone; you don't even know she has picked it up already," Adrian said to Charles, and immediately he took the phone and checked it, and happily, she hadn't picked it up yet.
After some minutes of ringing, she finally picked up.
"Hey, my love, any news?" Charles asked her while eyeing Adrian, who was busy showing him his thumbs.
"Yes, I already found him," Sarah said to him.
"And you told me nothing; my friends are still out there searching for him," Charles said to her while feigning to be hurt.
"Ooh, I'm so sorry, I completely forgot to tell you. Please don't mind me; you know the feeling you get after meeting your son you haven't seen for almost six years," Sarah said to him.
"Yeah, I understand. I hope nothing happened to him? Charles asked her.
"Nothing happened to him," Sarah said.
"Okay, happy to hear that. Try to find out what made him leave school and advise him not to do that again; it's very risky for a child of his age," Charles said to her.
"Yeah, you are right. I have talked to him, and I'm sure he will never do that again. By the way, do you have any plans for this evening?" Sarah asked him.
"No, why do you ask?" Charles asked her.
"Actually, since you treated me to dinner the last time, I wanted to invite you to my place for dinner. I will use the opportunity to present you to my father," Sarah said to him.
"Actually, I know who your dad is; almost everyone in New York knows who your dad is, but don't worry, I will be there," Charles said to her.
"Ok I will be expecting you then. The time is seven pm," Sarah said to him.
"Okay, I will surely be there. Have a nice day.
"Have a nice day too, kisses," Sarah said to him before hanging up.
"What's with the smile?" Adrian asked Charles once he hung up.
"She invited me for dinner," Charles said to him.
"Wow, can I come along?" Adrian asked him, and immediately he frowned.
"Never," Charles said to him.
Well, I knew you were going to refuse; enjoy her to the full now that you still have her; it's not going to last after all," Adrian said to him before standing up and walking out of the office while grinning ear to ear.
