Chapter 20 :The Repercussions
As Sarah and her uncle were on their way back home, she couldn't help but laugh due to the awful event that took place at the party. The videos of the event were already trending on every social media site, the wife of the CEO of Quim Corporation getting drunk at a social gathering and humiliating her husband in her drunken state.
The story of Quim Corporation being on the edge of bankruptcy was already dying down, but the event that had just taken place had arisen it once again, damaging the image of Xavier and the company the more.
"Did you see her face when I slapped her?" Sarah asked her uncle before bursting into another round of laughter.
"Well, from the way you slapped her, one would have thought that you had been wanting to slap her for a very long time, but the opportunity never presented itself," Richard said to Sarah.
"You are right about that; since she and Xavier took my baby away from me, I have been wishing for an opportunity like this one to present itself, but just as you stated, the opportunity never presented itself. Today, when the opportunity finally presented, I couldn't afford to let it slide, so I took advantage it," Sarah said to her uncle proudly.
"You did really take advantage of it, but don't you find it strange that Xavier's wife suddenly got drunk even without drinking a lot of wine?" Richard asked Sarah.
"How sure are you that she didn't drink too much?" Sarah asked her uncle with an inquisitive look.
"Well, on occasions like the one we attended, dispositions are taken in order to prevent anyone from getting drunk and misbehaving, just as Claudia just did. No waiter or waitress is allowed to serve a drink to any attendant till the extent he or she gets drunk, so it's really strange for her to get drunk after drinking one or two glasses of wine," Richard said to Sarah.
"Well, who knows? Maybe she's not used to drinking, or probably someone drugged her," Sarah said to her uncle with a wicked smirk.
"Wait just a minute, young lady; did you say that someone drugged her?" Richard asked Sarah with furrowed brows.
"Well, I don't know; I said maybe," Sarah said to her uncle before turning her gaze away.
With the way she was talking, Richard could already tell that she was lying, but he needed to confirm it himself.
"Sarah, tell me the truth. Did you drug Claudia?" Richard asked her as she was still avoiding his gaze.
"Sarah, look at me," Richard said to Sarah, who heaved a sigh before turning around and looking at him.
"Tell me, did you drug her?" Richard asked Sarah again, and she nodded after some minutes of silence.
"Unbelievable," Richard muttered to himself.
"How did you manage to do that? I didn't notice anything odd about you," Richard said to Sarah.
"I paid one of the waitresses to do it," Sarah said to her.
"Well, that's smart of you, but believe me, you just got yourself into a huge mess. Remember, I told you that it's rare for someone to get drunk in events like this one. Xavier is surely going to try and investigate to find out how his wife got drunk. At first, they might not know that it's you, but when they question all those waitresses and even threaten to send them to jail if they don't say the truth, surely the waitress will admit that you were the one who asked her to do it. Mind you that there were security cameras in the party room too," Richard explained to Sarah in a serious tone, and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.
"I never thought about that; what do you suggest I do?" Sarah asked her uncle with a pleading tone.
"No need to get yourself worked up; I have some connections in the hotel; I will clear up everything, but please, next time, be careful. I know that you are determined to get back at Xavier and Claudia for what they did to you, but I will advise you to be extra careful so that you don't get yourself into trouble," Richard said to Sarah, and she nodded in reply.
"Thank you," Sarah said to him, her voice filled with gratitude.
"Don't mention it, dear," Richard said to Sarah with a warm smile before taking his phone and placing a call across someone.
It was already one pm in the morning. Everyone in Xavier's mansion had already retired to bed, including Justin. Meanwhile, Xavier was sitting alone in the sitting room with many thoughts running through his mind. He had contacted every agency he knew in order to take down the video about him that was circulating on every social media handle, but all his efforts had proved abortive. He knew how hard he had struggled to take down the news about his company being on the edge of bankruptcy, and just when he thought everything was over, another news arose, awakening the news he had already buried down and once again, he has to find a way to take the news down knowing the negative impacts all these were having on his barely surviving company.
As these thoughts were running through his mind, Claudia came down from the stairs while yawning. Once she saw Xavier sitting all by himself, lost in his thoughts, she approached him and sat beside him before tapping him, jolting him back to reality.
"Are you okay?" She asked him with furrowed brows.
"What is the meaning of that question? How am I supposed to be okay after what you did at the party?" He asked her, his voice rising in anger.
"What do you mean by that?" I can't even recall what happened at the party.
"How can you recall getting yourself drunk and puking all over my body before everyone?" Xavier thundered angrily at her.
"What do you mean by I got drunk? I only took two glasses of wine, and it wasn't even an alcoholic wine. You of all people know that I don't drink alcoholic drinks," Claudia said to Xavier, who immediately remembered that Claudia doesn't drink alcoholic drinks, not even at home; she was allergic to them.
"If you didn't take alcohol, then how on the f**king earth did you get drunk?" Xavier asked Claudia.
"How on earth am I supposed to know. If I got drunk after drinking a non-alcoholic drink?" that means something was added to the drink before it was served to me," Claudia said to Xavier.
"I think you are right; someone planned this on purpose, and there's only one way to find out who did it," Xavier said to Sarah before taking his phone and placing a call across the hotel.
