Chapter 29: Trying To Get Her To Fall In Love With Me
"Who was that?" Adrian asked Charles, who had just hung up the call he was making with Richard.
"It's Richard, the father of the lady I'm trying to win over," Charles said to Adrian before placing his two legs on the desk.
"Her father? Why was he calling you?" Adrian asked him with furrowed brows.
"He wanted to remind me of the agreement we had," Charles said to him shortly.
"Wait just a minute, I don't get it. You mean the father of the lady is aware of the reasons why you are trying to get his daughter to fall in love with you?" Adrian asked Charles with furrowed brows.
"No, of course; how can you even imagine such a thing?" Charles asked Adrian with an angry tone.
"Then tell me why he called," Adrian urged insistently.
"Come on, dude, must you know everything?" Charles asked him.
"Yes, of course, you know how curious I am, and we both know that you aren't going to have peace until you tell me," Adrian said to Charles, and immediately he sighed heavily before rubbing his hand on his face.
"When I spoke with the lady for the first time, she didn't even think twice before telling me that she wasn't interested in me or being in a relationship with anyone; when I informed the old man about it, he suggested that I go and see her father, and if I'm able to convince her father that I can take care of her, he would help me out, and that was exactly what I did.
"So, did it work?" Adrian chipped in immediately, not allowing him to finish. With that, Charles glared at him before hissing angrily.
"Sorry for interrupting," Adrian said to Charles, who rolled his eyes at him.
"As I was saying, when I met her father and explained my motives to him, he informed me that the decision wasn't his to make, that it depended on his daughter, but that he could help me out, but only on one condition, which was that I would protect his daughter, and without thinking twice, I agreed," Charles said to Adrian, and he nodded in reply.
"Okay, but you haven't yet answered my main question, which was why the lady's dad called you," Adrian said to him.
"Well, yesterday, while I invited the lady to have dinner with me, the old man did something that I never imagined he would do; he sent out some of his men to attack the lady, and he asked me to go and rescue her," Charles said to Adrian, and immediately he widened his eyes in surprise.
"That's really a smart move, but a dangerous one," Adrian commented.
"Exactly. I don't know if the old man knew that the lady's car was blended or not. Imagine that her car wasn't blended; she would have been seriously injured," Charles said to Adrian.
"So how did you manage to save her? Did you kill the old man's men?" Adrian asked him with furrowed brows.
"Yes, of course, I killed all of them. When I got to the scene and saw how they were shooting at the lady's car as if someone wasn't inside and also ignoring the fact that the car could have caught fire, I got infuriated and killed all of them," Charles said to Adrian.
"It seems like the lady informed her dad this morning about it, and he called me to remind me of our agreement, and I also reminded him that I have fulfilled my own part of the agreement by saving his daughter the previous night, so it's up to him to respect his own part by convincing his daughter to date me," Charles said to Adrian, who shook his head in disbelief.
"This new episode of the story you debuted with the old man is very interesting; I can't wait to see the end. By the way, what did the old man say when he found out that you eliminated his men?" Adrian asked Charles.
"He called me this morning and ranted as usual, telling me that I was the one who was going to pay all the cash he paid the cops who cleared off all the stories so that they wouldn't appear in the media, but I don't give a damn about it; I will gladly pay it, but one thing is sure: I can't always do things the way he wants them done; if he wants everything to be done in his own way, then he should do it by himself," Charles said to Adrian.
"Well, dude, be careful with the old man; you know well that he doesn't like it when people don't do things in his way. Don't forget what happened to Damien; up to today, no one has been able to find out what the old man did with him, not even his family members know," Adrian said to Charles.
"Well, I'm not Damien; the old man won't dare do what he did with Damien to me, and mind you, I'm the only one who can do this job of his, so I don't think that getting rid of me is ever going to be on his agenda," Charles said to Adrian confidently.
"Well, if you say so, no problem, but I have advised you as a friend. By the way, what about the lady in question? Don't tell me that she hasn't fallen for your charm already," Adrian said to Charles.
"She hasn't, bro; that lady is on another level; I don't know what else I'm going to do with her; this is my first time putting in such an effort to win a lady's heart," Charles said to Adrian with frustration.
"Guess she's my replicate; she's not an easy lady just the same way I'm not an easy guy," Adrian said to Charles, and immediately he rolled his eyes at him.
"Whatever, if you were the CEO of this company, surely you would have already impregnated all the female employees in this company. Do you know what? Go back to your office; break time is over," Charles said to Adrian.
"Really, dude, are you chasing me out of your office?" Adrian asked him with furrowed brows before standing up.
"Yes, I am," Charles said to him.
"You better not call me again because I won't come," Adrian said to him before walking to the door.
"The only reason I would call you is if you tell me you know a way to get that lady to fall in love with me," Charles said to him.
"And who told you that I didn't know?" Adrian asked him.
"Really?" Do you know?" he tried asking Adrian, but immediately he walked out and closed the door before he could finish talking.
"Fool!" Charles muttered to himself.
