Chapter 74: Fake Identity
It was nine p.m. in the night, and Sarah had just gotten back home after spending one of her best moments with Charles at the bar.
After parking her car in the garage, she walked inside her house only to find her uncle alone in the sitting room watching the news, which was unlike him since Justin arrived. Even though he didn't like watching cartoons, he still watched it with Justin, knowing that he was too young to watch news. He would only get bored while watching it, and he wouldn't still understand.
"Hey Sarah, you are back. It seems like you had a lot to do at the company today." Richard asked her.
"Yeah, I actually had a long day, but that wasn't the reason why I had come back late; Charles actually took me out after work," Sarah said to him before sitting down on the couch opposite him.
"Okay, I hope you enjoyed his company." Richard asked her.
"Yes, I did. By the way, where is Justin?" Sarah asked him.
"He's with his father; he will be spending the weekend with him," Richard said to Sarah.
"What! But how could he have taken him without my permission?" Sarah asked Richard with a disapproving tone.
"Actually, I was the one who gave him permission," Richard said to Sarah, and immediately she frowned at him.
"Come on, Sarah, what is with the long face? Xavier is Justin's father, and you can't keep him away from Xavier; the kid has nothing to do with the issue the both of you are having," Richard said to Sarah, and immediately she sighed heavily before resting her back on the couch.
"I think you are right about that. Did he come here and take him?" Sarah asked Richard.
"No, he came and took him at the school," Richard lied to Sarah, not wanting to tell her that Justin was kidnapped and Xavier had taken him after they had rescued him. Surely she was going to start panicking once she heard that.
"I hope he brings him back on Sunday ahead of his school on Monday," Sarah said to Richard.
"Of course he will; that was what he said before taking him. By the way, have you noticed anything strange about Charles since you started dating him?" Richard asked Sarah.
"Something like what?" Sarah asked him with furrowed brows.
"Something like him faking his identity?" Richard asked Sarah, and immediately she shook her head negatively.
"I haven't noticed such things about him; I even did a background check on him before giving him a chance, just as you asked me. I didn't find anything compromising about him. By the way, why are you asking?" Sarah asked him.
"Actually, when I met Xavier at Justin's school, he told me that Charles isn't who we think he is. It's true that I didn't believe him, but I had cleared up my suspicions by asking you," Richard said to Sarah, and immediately she hissed angrily.
"Well, he has told me the same thing, and just like you, I didn't believe him. I'm sure that all he wants to do is prevent me from getting married to Charles, he still hasn't accepted the fact that the woman he had broken and rejected is now being sought by another man, and the woman he left me for has divorced him, so I'm sure he's going to do everything in his power to stop us from getting married, but I'm not going to give him the chance to do that," Sarah said to Richard with a determined.
"Well, I'm happy to hear that. As long as you haven't noticed anything strange about him, then there's nothing to be afraid of. Even if you notice anything strange about him after the marriage, you can divorce him; you aren't bound to remain with him," Richard said to Sarah.
"Exactly, Dad, I'm not bound to remain with him; the only thing strange about him is that he's rushing things," Sarah said to Richard.
"Rushing things, how?" Richard asked her with a furrowed.
"Well, remember that it hasn't been up to two months since he asked me out, proposed to me, and now he wants us to get married next month—all this in the interval of a month and a half,Sarah said to Richard.
"Well, I don't see anything wrong with that," Richard said to Sarah, and immediately she scoffed inwardly.
'Well, what am I supposed to expect from someone who never fell in love through out his whole life, talk less of getting married?' Sarah thought inwardly.
"Come on, Dad, we haven't even known ourselves well; everything just seems like a contract marriage where the bride gets married to the groom in a very short period without even getting the chance to know who the bride is because she doesn't have a say. Can you believe that it's just this night that I discovered that none of his parents are still alive?" Sarah said to Richard.
"Well, that's already a step. Mind you that the marriage is still next month, so you have all the time in the world to get to know him better, but mind you that it also depends on you," Richard said to her.
"And how does it depend on me?" Sarah asked him with a furrowed brows.
"Well you are a workaholic, so you need to make out time to know him better, if not there's no way you are going to know him better if you don't spend quality time with him," Richard said to him and immediately she frowned at him.
"Whatever Dad, and for your information I'm not a workaholic, we had made arrangements to spend more time together and we are starting tomorrow," Sarah said to him.
"Well that's a good news, the fact that the both of you are already talking things out between yourselves even before the marriage already shows that the both are going to have a happy marriage life," Richard said to Sarah and immediately she sighed heavily before standing up from the couch.
"It still surprises me that you are excited about me getting married while I on the other hand isn't even too excited because of it, I hope this isn't an arranged marriage," Sarah said to Richard while heading to the stairs.
"What?" Richard asked her in surprise.
"Nothing Dad, if you didn't hear what I said then forget about, goodnight," Sarah said to him while climbing the stairs.
"I heard perfectly what you said," Richard screamed from behind.
"I know Dad, good night," Sarah said to him before getting out of view and immediately Richard sighed heavily.
