Chapter 110: The Wedding Day
It was Sunday morning in New York City; finally, the day everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived—the day that one of the biggest weddings in New York City was going to take place; the wedding between Sarah Jones and Charles Smith, two of the richest figures in New York City,.
Hope Community Church, one of the biggest churches in New York City where the wedding was going to take place, was filled with hundreds of people from different backgrounds who wanted to witness the union of the two public figures. The sound of the melodies that were being sung by the choir could be heard from far away.
Among the people who were present were the old man and Adrian, who were sitting in different locations.
Normally, Adrian was supposed to be Charles's best man, but after the little dispute they had after the old man tortured Charles, he chose one of his men to become his best man instead of Adrian. Aside from Adrian and Raymond, who is usually called the old man in order to conceal his identity, there was also Xavier.
Sarah had personally invited him to the wedding; she wanted to make sure that he was present to witness her getting married to another man after he had divorced her.
Meanwhile, outside the church, many reporters of different journalistic fame could be seen streaming live the whole event, including the different billionaires who were invited and who had honored the invitation by being present.
Meanwhile, in the garage were Sarah and Lucy, who was her flower girl. They were waiting for the time they would be called to start walking inside the church.
Since Charles was the groom, he had to walk in with his best man first before they would call her to start walking in.
Strangely, unlike other ladies who would be nervous on their wedding day, Sarah wasn't even nervous; instead, she was busy manipulating her phone while waiting for when she would be called to start walking into the church.
She was so engrossed in the phone she was manipulating that she didn't even notice Lucy, who had been staring at her in disbelief for a while.
As she was manipulating her phone, she felt that someone was staring at her, and with that, she lowered her phone only to see Lucy, who had her gaze intently on her.
"What?" She asked Lucy with an inquisitive look.
"Nothing," Lucy said to her in reply.
"Then why are you staring at me like that, or is there something on my face?" Sarah asked her.
"No, of course; it's just that you never cease to amaze me. I remember when Anabel wanted to get married; I don't know if you still remember her. We all graduated together," Lucy said to Sarah.
"Yeah, I still remember her," Sarah said to Lucy.
"Well, I was her flower girl when she got married; I could clearly see how nervous she was that day. It took a lot of effort from my side before calming her down, and happily, she didn't pass out because of her nervousness. But then there's you; you aren't even acting like someone is who is about to get married, but instead here you are, void of emotions, manipulating your phone as if nothing is about to happen. Even me, who is your flower girl, is nervous, while you, on the other hand, aren't even a little bit nervous," Lucy said to Sarah.
"So if I understand well, you want me to be nervous, right?" Sarah asked Lucy, and she nodded in reply.
"Well, I can't; do you want to know why?" Sarah asked her, and she nodded once again.
"That's because this isn't my first time getting married. I was nervous when I was getting married to Xavier, but I can't be anymore because I have experienced getting married before. So it's people like you who haven't gotten married before that will be nervous on their wedding day," Sarah said to Lucy before returning her gaze to her phone and continuing with what she was doing, and with that, Lucy huffed at her before shaking her head in disbelief.
"Okay, aside from being nervous, why aren't you worried by the fact that your groom isn't yet here? It's been almost an hour since we have been waiting," Lucy said to Sarah, and immediately she lowered her phone and looked at her.
"Really?" Sarah asked her with a surprised tone.
"Yes, you have been so engrossed in your phone that you didn't even notice it," Lucy said to Sarah.
"Okay, I think I should call him," Sarah said to Lucy before placing a call across to Charles.
Back in the church, the old man was already getting worried by the fact that Charles hadn't yet arrived; he had scolded Adrian right from the moment he arrived without Charles. The main reason why he asked Adrian to come with Charles is to assure that everything goes as planned and Charles doesn't do anything stupid, just as he has the habit of doing.
"From where Adrian was sitting, he could already see the old man's angry gaze on him. The only thing that was preventing the old man from standing up from where he was sitting and walking up to him and punching him hard on the face was the fact that he was concealing his identity and he didn't want anyone to see him with Adrian.
Taking his phone, Adrian started walking out of the church while placing a call across to Charles, but it didn't go through. At the same time, he received a text message from the old man, which read, "Where is Charles, and why isn't he picking up his phone?"
"I don't know, sir; I'm going to his house right away," Adrian replied before entering his car.
"You better find him and bring him here; if not, you won't like what I will do to you," the old man texted him once again.
"Just shut up; I'm bringing you your boy right away," Adrian muttered to himself before flinging the phone to the passenger seat without replying to the text message.
To be continued.
