Chapter 116: In Shock
As the audio recording started playing, Xavier stood up, and without uttering a word to anyone, he started heading outside.
Once he came out, he walked directly to the garage where his car was, and on getting there, he opened the door of the back seat and entered inside.
"Thank you, Ben; you really did a nice job," Xavier said to Ben.
"I'm happy to hear that, sir. So where are we heading?" Ben asked him.
"Take me back home; I need to get some rest before tomorrow," Xavier said to him.
"Okay, boss," Ben said to him before igniting the car, and with that, Xavier whined the mirrors of the windows up, not wanting to be disturbed by the reporters who were outside.
"Boss, now that we have exposed Charles, what is the next step?" Ben asked Xavier while driving out of the church.
"Well, the next step is finding out who Charles' boss is," Xavier said to him.
"You mean the old man?" Ben asked him.
"Yes, exactly," Xavier said to him.
"I think there's a way we can find him," Ben said to Xavier before looking at him through the central mirror.
"Hope it's not one of your demoniac plans again? Don't forget that last time you almost got yourself killed," Xavier said to him.
"Of course, this time around, it's nothing dangerous," Ben said to him.
"Okay, I'm all ears," Xavier said to him.
"Remember the person Charles was discussing the plan with?" Ben asked Xavier.
" Yes, Adrian," Xavier asked him.
"Well, if we want to find out who the old man is, where he stays, and what kind of person he is, it's going to be through Adrian. Mind you that they were both discussing about the old man, meaning they both know him and probably they are both working for him," Ben said to Xavier.
"Well, I think you are right; Adrian is going to be a good source of information, but how are we going to get the truth out of him? Mind you, we have just released the audio recording, and soon everyone is going to be aware of it, including Adrian, and I'm sure that once he hears about it, he is surely going to disappear just like Charles," Xavier said to Ben.
"Well, we can kidnap him before he tries fleeing," Ben said to Xavier, and immediately Xavier glared angrily at him.
"I knew you were going to end up asking me to do something dangerous," Xavier said to him.
"Well, no risk, no gain," Ben said to him.
"Thanks for the suggestion, Ben, but I don't think that I can do what you just suggested. Mind you, I'm trying to rebuild my tarnished image, so for now I can't do anything that will tarnish my image once again. I will ask someone to keep an eye on him and to also report his every move to me, but I'm not kidnapping him," Xavier said to Ben.
"Okay, boss, that's also good; at least he can still lead us to the old man," Ben said to Xavier.
"Absolutely," Xavier said to him in reply.
Meanwhile, Richard's feet were still rooted to the floor as he kept on listening to every conversation between Charles and Adrian. He just couldn't believe that this was the person who he had advised Sarah to give a chance to. He also couldn't imagine what would have happened if Charles had actually gotten married to Sarah, just as he had initially planned.
Aside from all this, what he still couldn't understand was why Charles didn't show up but instead decided to flee from New York City, or did he discover that someone secretly recorded his conversation with his friend? But if that's the case, who then recorded Charles'conversation, how and why?
As these thoughts were running through his mind, something held his hand, jolting him back to reality.
Looking down, he saw that it was Justin who was holding his hand; actually, he had left him on the chair where they were sitting to go and see Sarah after receiving the news that Charles had left New York City.
"Grandpa, are you okay? You have been standing here for a while now." Justin, who didn't know what was going on, said it to Richard while holding his hand.
"Everything is okay, little one; I was just thinking about something. Let's get going; your mom is waiting for us in the car," Richard said to Justin before heading outside while holding his hands and at the same time ignoring the questioning looks of the guests.
"Grandpa, are Mummy and Uncle not getting married again?" Justin asked Richard who was leading him to the car.
""No," the old man said to him in reply while leading him to the car.
Once they got to the car, Richard saw Sarah, who was sobbing silently while hugging Lucy. From the way she was sobbing, he could already tell that she had heard about the audio recording.
"You have seen the news, right?" Richard asked her after she had disengaged from the hug.
"Yes, I have seen it; who played it?" Sarah asked Richard.
"I'm also asking the same question as you," Richard said to Sarah.
"But are you sure that the audio recording wasn't fake? I mean, someone could have made that up," Sarah said to Richard, and immediately he furrowed his brows at her.
"What are you insinuating?" Richard asked her.
"I'm not assuming anything, Dad; I just want to be sure of the credibility of the audio recording," Sarah said to Richard, and at the same time, a black car with tinted windows pulled over close to them.
"Look, Sarah, that audio wasn't fake; even by listening to the conversation, you could already tell. Please let's get going before the reporters get here, and I need to get some rest," Richard said to Sarah before walking to the black car that had pulled over, and with that, Lucy and Justin followed him from behind.
After some minutes of hesitation, Sarah too got down from the car and joined them in the black car.
To be continued.
