Chapter 93: Left With No Choice
"Is everything okay?" Sarah asked him because of his facial expression.
"Yes, everything is okay. I want you to fire Xavier now." Charles said to her:.
"What!!!" Sarah exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes, you heard me right; I want you to fire Xavier right away," Charles said to Sarah while clinching his fist in anger.
"Seriously? What on earth is wrong with the both of you? Xavier came here some minutes ago, asking me to fire Mr. Renold Gonzalez because he isn't a trustworthy person, and now here you are asking me to fire Xavier. Can I know why you are asking me to fire him?" Sarah asked Charles with furrowed brows.
"Come on, Sarah, you know well that right from the beginning, Xavier has been against us getting married, and now you have made him your personal assistant, giving him not only the opportunity to be close to you almost the whole day but also the opportunity to find a way to prevent us from getting married. Xavier is your enemy, meaning he is my enemy too, and you aren't supposed to have anything to do with him. How do you think I will feel knowing that every day you are in the same company as your ex-husband?" Charles asked Sarah, and she sighed heavily.
"Why didn't you tell me this since all this while? It's been almost a month since I made Xavier my personal assistant, and it was even announced on every social media platform and even on the news, so there's no way you will say that you weren't aware of it," Sarah said to Charles.
"Of course I was aware of it, but just like everyone, I didn't believe it, and if I didn't even bother asking you, it's because I knew that you couldn't do such a thing. I was surprised when he himself confirmed it during the ceremony, and you even told everyone that I was okay with it. Tell me, which man in his right senses will be okay with his fiancée employing her ex-husband as her personal assistant?" Charles asked Sarah, and immediately she sighed heavily before standing up from the chair where she was sitting.
"I'm so sorry for not informing you beforehand. You know well that I'm not used to asking people about their opinion before taking a decision; it has always been me and only me against the world for the past five years. The only person I do ask about his opinion is my father, but I rarely do that. But you don't need to worry; from now on, I will start learning how to be a good wife, and one way to do that is by always asking your opinion before taking important decisions," Sarah said to Charles before approaching him and holding his hand. With that, Charles pulled her closer and kissed her passionately.
"So, are you still angry at me?" Sarah asked him with a pouted lips after they disengaged from the hug.
"No, of course, and I wasn't angry at you in the first place, and to be sincere, I'm very happy that you are ready to make some changes just to make me happy.
I was just telling you how I felt; even though I have never been in a relationship before, at least I know well that for a relationship to work out, communication is very essential. We need to learn how to express our feelings to each other freely, or am I wrong?" Charles asked Sarah.
"No of course, my dear husband, you aren't wrong," Sarah said to him before pecking him on the lips.
"Communication is very essential in every relationship, and from the perspective of things, it seems like I need to work on mine, and trust me, I'm going to work on it as soon as possible," Sarah said to Charles.
"I'm so happy to hear that, so what do you say about what I told you?" Charles asked her
"About what?" Sarah asked him.
"About firing Xavier, you need to stay away from him, and the only way to do that is by firing him," Charles said to Sarah.
"I'm sorry, but I can't do that." Sarah asked Charles with a low tone.
"But why?" Charles asked her in frustration.
"There's no valid reason for me to fire him, and I'm sure that he's actually going through a lot of financial issues...
"Is that why you don't want to fire him?" Charles chipped in, not liking the fact that Sarah was pitying him.
"No, Charles, and please, can you allow me to finish talking?" Sarah asked him.
"I'm sorry for interrupting you; please go on," Sarah said to Charles.
"Well, as I was saying, Xavier is actually going through a lot of financial issues, and if I ever fire him with no valid reason, he's going to use it to his own advantage. Mind you that he was also a CEO, so he knows perfectly all the rules and regulations protecting the employee from the employer, and if I fire him, he will surely sue me for unjust treatment, and I will be forced to pay him the fine related to the non-compliance with regulations relating to worker rights. Believe me, after all the money I spent the past few weeks on this company, I'm not ready to waste my money on paying fines; I would rather endure him for the short period of time he is going to be working here; after all, he isn't going to work here forever; it's just for a short period of time until he opens his own company," Sarah said to Charles.
"I understand perfectly what you are saying. I would have asked you to fire him, and I will pay the fine related to it, but the issue here is that firing him will impact negatively on the image of the company," Charles said to Sarah.
"Well, we are left with no choice, but there is no need to worry. I will be very careful with him," Sarah said to Charles.
"Well, I trust you on that. By the way, are you free? If not, I want us to go and select your wedding dress. Remember, it's today; we are supposed to go and check it," Charles said to Sarah.
"Ooh my goodness, I totally forgot about it; let's get going; I have nothing important to do," Sarah said to Charles before walking to her table and taking her handbag, and with that, they exited the office and started heading outside while holding hands together.
