Chapter 85: Call From An Unknown Number
It was four p.m. in the evening, and Xavier had just finished working on the files Ben had brought for him.
Sighing heavily, he leaned back on the sofa, and immediately his mind drifted off to the plan Ben had talked to him about. It's true that the plan is very risky and dangerous, and if things don't go as planned, they will be in a lot of trouble, and they might even end up in prison, but he was also running out of time. Sarah's marriage to Charles was around the corner, and he hadn't even figured out a way to prevent them from getting married.
The only plan available was that of Ben, and if he doesn't come up with a better plan in the next two weeks, he won't have any other choice but to put that of Ben into execution, no matter how risky it is. This won't be his first time taking such a risk, since Sarah came back to New York City, he has done many crazy things in order to get her back, and among those things is selling his company and asking to become her personal assistant, even though he had already opened another company somewhere else.
The main reason why he did that is because he knew that it would be impossible for him to win her back if he's not close to her. At least by being her personal assistant, he would always be close to her whenever she's in Quim Corporation and sometimes outside Quim Corporation because sometimes there might be business-related issues outside the company and she would need to attend to them, and as her personal assistant, he might also accompany her.
As these thoughts were running through his mind, his phone started ringing, jolting him back to reality.
Without hesitating, he took his phone that was on the center table and checked the caller ID, but it was an unknown number.
Furrowing his brows, he picked up the call and placed it on his ear while wondering who it was.
"Hello, who is this?" Xavier asked after placing the phone on his ear.
"Good evening, Xavier. How are you doing?" A female voice sounded through the phone, and immediately he frowned.
"Hello, are you still there?" The female voice asked when he stayed some minutes without saying a word.
"Claudia, what do you want, and why are you calling me with an unknown number?" Xavier asked her with a hoarse tone.
"Well, that's because I knew you wouldn't pick up if I had called you with my main number, that is, if you haven't blocked my phone number yet," Claudia said through the phone.
"Well, you are right, I didn't only block your number; I also deleted it, and afterwards, I took my time and blocked you on every social media handle," Xavier said to her with no emotion.
"Wow, thanks for your honesty," Claudia said to him.
"You are welcome, Claudia. Can you now tell me what you want?" Xavier asked her.
"I only wanted to check on you and also know why you haven't even tried to reach out to me since when I left," Claudia said to Xavier.
"And why should I do that? I'm no longer your husband, so I don't care if you are alive or dead; you can go to hell if you want, and I won't even give a damn," Xavier said to her.
"Wow, Xavier, do you hate me that much?" Claudia asked Xavier.
"Did you just say hate? Well, I don't hate you, but I loathe you," Xavier said to her.
"What?" Claudia asked Xavier in surprise.
"You heard me right, Claudia. I loathe you with every single vein in my body. You asked for a divorce, and I have given it to you. So stay away from me; I'm still broke as usual," Xavier said to her.
"Look, Xavier, I'm so sorry about that. I was too angry at you; that's why I asked for a divorce. I shouldn't have allowed my emotions to take the better part of me," Claudia said to Xavier, and immediately he scoffed at her.
"I have heard what you said, and believe me, just by hearing your voice, I could already tell how sincere you are," Xavier said in a sarcastic tone.
"So, are you forgiving me?" Claudia asked him.
"I will only forgive you in your dreams, Claudia. I'm sure that since you left, you haven't yet found another prey who you would victimize like me, so you decided to come back to the old fool who likes spending money on women who are barren. Well, allow me to tell you this: I would rather start living with a dog than allow you to start living with me again, and please don't you dare call my line again once I hang up, block my number and delete it from your phone just as I did for yours, and also block me on all your social media handles," Xavier said to her. He was about to hang up, but her voice interrupted him.
"Wait, wait, please don't hang up yet," Claudia said to him, and he sighed heavily.
"What again?" Xavier asked her with a frustrated tone.
"Look, Xavier, I might have asked for a divorce, but I never gave you permission to get married to another woman, especially Sarah. I know that she's the main reason why you are rejecting me, but believe me when I say this, I would rather be dead than to see both of you happy together," Claudia said to Xavier.
"What? Are you somehow threatening me?" Xavier asked her, only to realize that she had already hung up.
"B**ch," Xavier muttered angrily to himself before dropping the phone on the table, and with that, he took the documents he had worked on with his computer and started heading upstairs.
After dropping the documents and his computer on his bed, he started hearing the sound of his phone that was ringing from downstairs.
"Hope it's not that b**ch again," he muttered inwardly before heading downstairs. Once he arrived at the sitting room, he took the phone and checked the caller ID, and to his greatest surprise, it was Sarah.
Smiling to himself, he picked up the call and placed the phone in his ear.
"Hello, wifey, how are you doing?" Xavier asked Sarah over the phone.
