Chapter 57: Another Shocking News
"Come on, May, what do you mean by you aren't yet done with the reports? It's been two days for crying out loud," Charles thundered angrily at his secretary, who was avoiding his gaze.
"Sir, I'm sorry," the secretary said to him while avoiding his gaze.
"Will you stop apologizing to me? I hate it when people apologize for things they did knowingly. Yesterday I saw you discussing with your colleagues; meanwhile, you haven't yet worked on the reports I asked you to work on, and every time it's always the same story with you and all you do is apologize; can you give me one reason why I shouldn't fire you?" Charles asked her, but she remained silent while avoiding his gaze.
"You have till break period to get those reports ready and submit them to my table; if not, you better start looking for another company that will employ you. You may take your leave," Charles said to the secretary, who was already on the verge of crying.
"Thank you, sir," she said to Xavier before rushing out of the office, and with that, Charles hissed angrily.
Just a few minutes after she left, Charles door slowly started opening.
"Who's that?" Charles barked angrily, and immediately Adrian poked his head through the little opening. Once Charles saw him, he huffed angrily before returning his gaze to his company and continuing to type what he was typing on his computer.
"Wow, I never knew that I had suddenly become invisible," Adrian said to Charles while walking into the office, but Charles only stole a glance at him without uttering anything.
Seeing that Charles wasn't going to give him a reply, Adrian heaved a sigh before drawing out the chair opposite him and sitting down on it.
"Adrian, what do you want?" Charles asked Adrian once he sat down, but Adrian remained silent while feigning not to hear the question Charles had asked him.
"Adrian I said, What do you want?" Charles asked him again, but this time around, he was peering into Adrian's eyeballs so that he could see the anger already burning in his eyes.
"Can you see me?" Adrian asked him after some minutes of silence.
"And what was that supposed to mean? Were you invisible before?" Charles asked him with furrowed brows.
"Well, that's what I thought, since I came into your office and you didn't even look at my side," Adrian said to him.
"Whatever, I'm just not in a good mood," Charles said to him.
"Well, I'm already aware of that. With the way you have been barking at everyone this morning, including your secretary, one could already tell that you aren't in a good mood. So do you mind telling me why you aren't in a good mood?" Adrian asked him.
"I don't want to talk about it," Charles said to him.
"Really? Let me guess, it had something to do with yesterday's dinner with Sarah," Adrian said to Charles, and immediately he rolled his eyes at him.
"Come on, admit it already. I got it right, didn't I?" Adrian asked him while grinning from ear to ear.
"Yeah, you are right, always pretending to know everything about me," Charles muttered in a low tone.
"I'm not always pretending to know everything about you; I actually know everything about you, and if we check well, maybe I know you more than you know yourself," Adrian said to him confidently.
"Whatever," Adrian said to him before rolling his eyes at him like a young lady.
"So tell me, what happened during the dinner last night? Didn't you like the food that they cooked?" Adrian asked him.
"What nonsense! Do you think that food was enough to get me into a bad mood?" Charles asked him with a furrowed eyebrow, and immediately Adrian shrugged his shoulders in reply.
"I don't know, everything is possible," Adrian said to him, and immediately Charles scoffed at him.
"If it's not the food, maybe her son didn't like you," Adrian said to Charles but he remained silent while looking at him and at the same time wondering how he managed to know everything about him.
"I knew it; see, I told you that I knew everything about you," Adrian said to him confidently.
"How did you know that it was it?" Charles asked him.
"Well, I didn't know; I only guessed, and in case you are wondering how the idea came to my mind, just know that it's natural for the children of a single parent and the new partner of the single parent not to get along, especially when the second parent who isn't living with them is still alive. To them, you are an obstacle preventing their parents from getting back together.
That's the main reason why I can't date a lady who already has a child, because the love she has for her child will always be greater than the love she has for you.
Come to think of it,you aren't supposed to be affected by her son's reaction towards you; after all, you aren't in love with his mother, or are you?" Adrian asked him.
"Of course I'm not; it's just that the little kid is going to be a very big obstacle for me; just as you said, he thinks that I'm preventing his two parents from getting back together," Charles said to Adrian before taking his phone that was under the table and unlocking it.
"Well, he's a kid, so don't blame him; you would have done the same thing if you were at his place," Adrian said to Charles, who was busy manipulating his phone.
"I don't care if he's a kid or not, but he better watch it. If he gets in my way, I will get rid of him," Charles said to Adrian before widening his eyes in surprise.
"What's with the surprised look on your face?" Adrian asked Charles when he noticed how he widened his eyes in surprise.
"Take a look at this," he said to him before handing him his phone.
"What!!" Adrian exclaimed in surprise when he saw the news about Xavier selling his company to Sarah and becoming her personal assistant.
